Well no one has answered yet, I imagine there are a lot of comments here to parse through. Well I counted my pennies and the change from the couch and bought the lifetime of updates. Hope I no longer have monthly Cakewalk charges. Cakewalk is worth it! Please if someone sees this reassure me there will be no monthly charges. Thanks!

:)

No more monthly fees after purchasing lifetime updates

I don't treat DAWs like they are religions so they are addictions. Sonar is probably my 4th choice in DAWs.  I couldn't resist the 4life.  They are always working on changes and letting you know with the ezine.  I also support developers who prefer to spend time on their product instead of trying to lock it down.

There is an authorized dealer offering a "Cakewalk SONAR Platinum UPGRADE from SONAR X3 Pro Software Electronic Delivery" for $149

I currently use Platinum but I upgraded from X3 and it looks like "re-upgrading" may be more a more cost-effective way for getting the lifetime updates ($149 compared to $199 minus ~15% after coupons)

In this thread (yes, I went through the 18 pages...) I have seen a messages regarding the lifetime update promotion being applicable to upgrades from X3 and also messages talking about ineligible SKUs "not pulled from dealer's sites"

How can I know if the specific upgrade I'm seeing for $149 is eligible or not for the lifetime updates promotion?

Not sure if you can "re-upgrade" since you are already on Plat, and that is what would show in your account as current state.  That is your bigger problem  Would have to ask Cake about that directly.

AudioDeluxe has the Plat to Lifetime for $169

Thank you for replying. Actually my account shows both X3 and Platinum as available, it's not a "surrender" licensing (as a side note, I'm always amused by the little white flag icon that the ilok tool shows for "surrendered" licenses, like melodyne after upgrade)

Yes, I was referring to audiodeluxe in my calculations, the coupon code they apply is ~15% discount

Anyway, I'm hoping Andrew Rossa or someone else from Cakewalk can provide some info regarding how to identify ineligible SKUs (forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3426492)

Presumably you upgraded your X3 to get Platinum,  rather than buying a brand new Platinum license, thus you've already used up your X3 discount.  The Cakewalk Store knows this and will not let you re-upgrade.

If you upgraded to Plat when it first came out and thus have since renewed it...  check for Lifetime renewal discounts.

Yep, this is what I was referring to as being the "bigger problem"

Did you renew your Platinum earlier in the year?  There was a discount for Lifetime for people that had recently renewed (not simply upgraded).  Not sure if it still applies though.

The test is,  add Lifetime to store basket to see what it wants to charge you.  Discounts are only applied at the checkout.  You can do that without actually buying....

I would highly recommend extending the Lifetime offer.  Clearly many people would buy into it, but as is often true, current financial situations may be the inhibiting factor.  I for one would buy into it, just can't do it before the offer ends.  It's a no-brainer.

As I understand the offer if I buy the SONAR4Life ($199--I have Platinum and Rolling Updates now), when Cakewalk replaces Platinum I automatically get that DAW and any subsequent replacement including associated updates, etc. As nothing is forever, I want to pin down how far SONAR4Life takes me in terms of subsequent DAWs whose ancestral lineage is Platinum.
