Well, I'm new to this so maybe I'm missing something obvious, but it seems none of the files mentioned in either the quick start help or the online video tutorials available via the help menu are to be found anywhere.

To be complete, this is for Music creator 6 touch, downloaded bought version, installed with setting 'recommended'.

Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, and Welcome....

come back and ask questions as you work through the tutorials.  Not to many of us have the "touch" version or very likely a touch screen device. But it should be the same as the non-touch version as far as functions go.

Thanks for the reply Guitarhacker, sorry my reply took some time.

Meanwhile I think I've got the idea how most things are done in MC6, but I hit one snag. It seems I'm not able to record to a choosen track. It's armed, I use the master record key to start the process, but the result, speaking in vector scope terms, is two flatlines whatever I try.
Of course I can use export and put that result in a track, that works, but it would be nice to do this intenally too of course.

I wonder if my soundcard is up to the task now. I tried a few configuration things to no avail. The card is a PCIexpress Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio.
Any thoughts about this, me being not really a hardware specialist?

I've never had much success using the factory cards in the computers I use.

I, and most others here, use external interfaces, either USB or firewire.  Sound Blaster is generally NOT on our list of favorite sound cards to use for recording. Look at the interfaces made by Focusrite, Roland/Cakewalk, Presonus, M-Audio and others.

If you have flat lines, (2) you are trying to record in stereo. Select a MONO input if it is a mono source such as a mic or a guitar.  Recording stereo is a waste of hard drive space if the source is mono.

Be sure the signal path (input) is selected from the proper sound card input where the mic/source is coming from.

When you arm the track for recording, the meters should show movement when there is audio input happening. Once you have that going on, you should be able to record it.
