  • "Select All Tracks" Behavior in SPLAT- Is This Normal?

Scenario: Double Click on any track to "Select All" tracks
(example task in context: Select All Tracks>select a time range>export a quick mix of, say just the bridge of a song for a client to review)
Observation: If my view is only a partial group of tracks (and not the ALL track in the project), doing a double click to Select All Tracks actually only selects all the tracks in my current view.

To my reasoning, selecting all tracks should do just that : "select all"....not just "all the ones on my screen

Welcome all thoughts, as maybe I just have an odd work method that has me often doing quick mixes of just little sections...and this behavior can make for unexpected results.
Maybe there's a key stroke that circumvents the "Select all in view" behavior and really Selects ALL?

Ctrl-A to select all

If I double click (sometimes it has to be a triple click) on a track it does select all tracks here (even ones not in view).
But to be safe, just use CNTRL+A as noted by Gustabo.

Gustabo- Good call..never considered the standard Ctr-A command that works in every other instance would work for that as well. I guess I always assumed that was for a data selection as opposed to working for all tracks.
Tested with various open views and it does work better than the double clicking of a track to "select all tracks".

Chuckebaby: that's odd that it works in your setup. In my config, that which is not in view won't be selected with the double-click on a track method. Maybe it's just an old command now that is less reliable and Ctr-A is the preferred way. Seems to work so I'll switch to that.

Thanks for the input!! Problem solved!

Don't forget that Select None (ctrl + shift + a) accomplishes exactly the same thing

Interesting...in most cases, yes you would think that would work, but not in context outlined in initial post.
Just to give context as to why I ran into this:

Client wanted to hear short clips of just her bridge vocal so she could audition them, clips sent via email.
In this case, meant running 12 distinct clips of just the bridge.
With a view containing only those 12 vocal takes, my process was:
Un-mute desired vocal track, "Select All" tracks by double clicking any track in my view, then selecting a time range ( the bridge in this case) > export.

Error was: Select All only selects all the tracks currently in your view, not all tracks. (  I think this is a mistake in coding and should be fixed...Select All should be exactly that, no matter what your current view is...)

Gustabo's suggestion works by using the CTR-A command. That does indeed select all even in a limited track view, and the setting is not upset by then selecting a time-range. That's the kicker.
So anyone else running into this, that's the optimal key command to get it done fast and correctly.

Disclaimer: Maybe possible I'm the only oddball running multiple mixes of time-range selected lengths, so it isn't an issue to most. I work with a lot of clients long distance, and sometimes they want to hear 10 versions of a vocal in a small area, via email. Odd, but it happens a lot :)
Thanks for all the input..greatly appreciated.
