I found the best video for setting up AC-7 on the iPad and a Windows DAW.  It works great!! The RTPmidi is a free download from  RTPMidi site and AC-7 for the iPad is only $4.99 from the Apple Apps store from within the iPad.

Oh, Most important part.  I wondered why I could never get this to work in the beginning.  YOU HAVE TO ALLOW THE INSTALLATION OF BONJOUR and BONJOUR PRINT when you install RTPMidi (This allows RTPMidi to detect the iPad over the wireless network.

I kept stopping the installation initially of Bonjour because I didn't want it on my DAW as I don't use iTunes on it, but for this to work, I had to allow Bonjour to be installed.

AC- Core is Grey

The AC-7 Core HD is Black

The image below shows how it looks on my iPAD 2

I love this..

Sort of a hijack ,sorry, but while were taking iPads, does anybody use a bluetooth foot controller to scroll through lyrics? I remember a thread talking about this but it's not easy to find old threads anymore around here.
I find finger swipes overshoot my pages.

OK update on the installation

The set up takes several attempts so don't get discouraged.

First make sure you iPad is on
Next open "rtpMID"  and everything will be blank. The iPad name may appear in the directory name box, this is OK.

Setup in "rtpMID"

1.  Click the + symbol under my sessions and the default computer name will appear with the same name displaying for Local name and Bonjour Name.

2.   Click the Enable button above the Local name and Bonjour name and rename the Local name to DAW or somethings similar change the Bonjour name to something short as well.  Now you will see the new name in My sessions, so click DAW or whatever you named it.

3.  in the bottom left hand corner, make sure the words "Only computers in my directory" is showing and close "rtpMID".

------------

4.  Download AC-7 to your iPad.

6.  Open "rtpMID" on your computer.

7.  See your iPad's name and click connect.

8.  Open  AC-7 in the iPad and click set up and select Sonar  You will see the name you created pop up on AC7 so click OK for all popups on the iPad.

9.  Now open Sonar click P on the key board on the DAW

10.  Click midi devices and click the in and out for the name you created for "rtpMID"
11.  Click midi control surface and select the yellow plus sign and select Mackie Control and add the  midi port names you created for the in and outs.

12.  Now in the Sonar Dock Control at the top, look for Controller and click the drop drop down box and select the Mackie Controller.

13.  Open a project or create anew project

14.  Press Rest on the iPad for AC-7 and watch the faders fly.

The first name in  RPTMidi will become the name of the MDI shown ports in Sonar
If you already have a hardware controller installed in Sonar you will have to select the last one created for the iPad to respond.  and hit reset.

Hit Reset in AC7 after every change made to a settings in rtpMID

I hope this helps you all.

I have never had a lot of luck with RTP midi working consistently. I now use Lemur which has an excellent Sonar template and has its own connection utility that works flawlessly. It is slightly more expensive ($25 US) but a worthwhile investment.

Lemur wasn't for me, it involved some area of programming in which I am not fond of.   AC-7 HD has been running since I download it early this afternoon.  I had the iPad on all day and I went out to dinner and came back and when I pressed play, the track started playing via AC-7 HD on th  iPad.

So far I like this and it meets my needs.  I have gone through all of the buttons and I have had a few disappointments, but I would say the majority of the buttons worked.   The iPad is not here to replace my MCU, it's basically a remote transport control and for $4.99, it's worth it.

Channel fader control, record, stop, scrub, insert audio tracks. arm and record, selects tracks, mute, solo is all I need when I get out of my engineer chair and still need access to Sonar.

Glad to hear it is working well for you now. Over time I ran into issues on reconnection after shutdown on a very regular basis. It could usually be resolved by reinstalling or system restarting but it was just too inconsistent for use in live performance.

Programming in Lemur is now a non issue as you can just download the template and it will work.

As in all things there are many choices, and we will all have our favourite s that work for us.

V-Control is pricey.  I like how Studio One and Image Line created one their own for users.  I have a lot of those iPad apps for DAW but the cuteness wore off. I even had that one where the iPad becomes a dual monitor. I removed it because of little after effects it does to your PC.

Not Bluetooth or Apple, but ... I use a switch closure to USB Keyboard adapter on my Win 10 lyrics PC and it works well! I didn't like the finger swipes either, wanted to keep my hands on my guitar while playing live; hence the pedals.

Sometimes, standing at a mic doing a vocal take when you are not near your keyboard, using AC7 on an iPad makes things so much easier.
