I'm looking for a good auto pitch correction plug-in.  I used V-Vocal quite a bit until I did a clean install of Sonar Platinum.  Can V-Vocal be installed without installing an earlier version of Sonar? Looks like Melodyne works differently in that there is an extra first step of importing audio, unless I'm missing something.  Any help would be appreciated.

To get V-Vocal working again you don't have to install an earlier version of Sonar completely.
Depending how far back your versions go . . . for example, I've been able to re-install just V-Vocal from my Sonar 8.5 disks, during the install routine select only V-Vocal to install.

To use Melodyne in your Sonar Platinum you have to create a Melodyne "Region FX" from an audio clip.

So I was an Antares auto-tune fan for years until I really dug into Melodyne. At first I was frustrated with Melodyne having to capture the track first and then tweaking it until I discovered the region ARA approach. I did upgrade to the Assistant version which gave me more flexibility and functionality. Recently I took a track from years ago that had great soul in it but was pitchy and transformed it with Melodyne into a soulful spot on track that sounds real. Still working with the tempo capabilities it has but at this point very pleased with the product. Hope this helps

Not quite correct there. V-Vocal is an intrinsic part of the Sonar installer and not available to install as an individual plugin.
You need too install the whole Sonar program (X2 or earlier) however in the verbose/advanced installer you can deselect every other component ensuring the installation is only a few hundred MB.

Melodyne is integrated into Sonar the same way V-Vocal was - you create a region effect on the clip. Select a clip (or a portion of one) and hit CTRL+M.

Many thanks for all the info.

You can use Melodyne the old (pre-ARA) way by inserting it as an FX bin item and then importing the audio.  Using it in ARA mode with Region-FX is, however, much easier.

I had to actually install an earlier version of Sonar to get at V-Vocal. I love how V-Vocal lets you switch over to the amplitude tab and manually tweek the gain envelope as you tune the vocal. It's one stop shopping and has a much nicer looking interface than melodyne. Plus it's not a thing where once you get it up and running, you realize you have a light version that only does one or two things ... but I digress.

I installed sonar X1 I think it was ... then after that, when you designate a section of an audio track as "Region FX", you should then see V-Vocal in the menu in Sonar X3 or whatever version is your go to.

You realize Melodyne does amplitude too, right?

Not the version I had. I would've had to fork over darn near $200 for an upgrade ... I think.

But it doesn't really matter. I'm a designer myself and can't look at the interface. It literally causes my food to want out.

I'm also bitter about the whole narrative where I was very content to use V-Vocal and then it was just removed from all versions going forward because they swung a new and better deal with Melodyne. Yeah, that still stings a bit ...
