Hi:
I just purchased Sonar Artist and I am learning to use the program.  I have five questions.  (1).  How can I import a MP3 file from my desktop into the file.  (2).  How can I see a project in full view.  I managed to get a song into the program and it is in the upper right hand corner.  (3). Can you sue the software to extract from a mix?  (4). How is Quantizing accomplished using the program?  (5).  Can you separate a mix into two separate tracks using the program and how is this done?  Thanks.  Ed

Hi.
1: Importing mp3 can be done several ways. From File, Import, Audio. Or simply drag and drop from Browser (B), or any folder.
2: Do you not see the "Min, Max and Restore" buttons on the top right? If you do, click Restore / Maximize.
If not, try to double click on the top of the project window.
3: Not sure what you mean when you say  "Can you sue the software to extract from a mix?"
4: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X2&language=4&help=EditingMIDI.38.html
5: Yes. Select the clip, and go to the "Tracks" menu. Select bounce to track(s). Select Track as source category, split mono as channel format. No need to use dither. Press ok.
Hope it helps.
All the best.

Did you mean: use

If you mean can you extract a given track from a source that has already been merged  into a mix, i. e. you take a bunch of tracks and save them mixed as one audio file, then no software is going to be very good at that. The analogy that is often used is that you cannot recover the tomatoes out of the spaghetti sauce. There are various filtering techniques that may reduce the signal that derived from a certain voice or instrument relative to the mix, but the result is generally less than optimum, unless the thing you want to remove/isolate is almost entirely confined to a single channel of a stereo mix.
