Question...I thought I was moving the contents of my downloads file to my external but I copied the folder. Now that it is copied onto my external, can I go through the the file that's on my "c" drive and delete the contents?

From your description it sounds like the Download folder and its contents are on both the C and external drive. If that is the case, you can safely select and delete all the content in the Download folder on the C drive. If later you find something you need was deleted copy it back from the external.
