I like the idea - would be really useful for large track count projects ...
But given the attention control surfaces get, this will probably never work for CS users ...

Hi FreeFlyBertl,
Thanks & nice to see another VS700 user here in the Forum. (I'm still figuring out how to best get it work for me)
I don't see why it would not work with (any) control surface... I believe the trackmanagers hide/show tracks reflects on our VS and expect it would reflect on other control-surfaces, so I would think it could be implemented.
(oh well... even if it doesn't. At least we've got Channel-Branch mode  )

Well, first of all the VS700 still works fine ... but ever since X1 was released the channel locking feature was broken and with it the channel hide functionality i.e. you can hide channels in CV but you will get odd behaviour with channels controlled by VS700 to the right hand side of the hidden ones (if I remember right channel strip control gets really confused and you don't really know what is being adjusted when you turn the knobs).

Now with hidding everything that is not linked to your selected bus, you will inevitably run into the same issue.

Controll surface dlls are basically all legacy. VS700 definitely is. source code is published but none will ever do anything serious with it. so this will stay as is ... Actually I had downloaded the source myself and successfully build it on a demo developer studio license, but just paying for developer studio license to mess around with it is too expensive - it basically gets me half way to a RME interface or half way to another CS once VS700 stops working ... and it doesn't even include yet time & effort ...

I think this idea could really help me with respect to mapping the controls on my P6 to the SONAR mixer. The P6 (and P4) have 8 faders/encoders/buttons, a 9th fader, plus the motorized (10th) fader. Working with banks and bank swapping and trying to remember what was mapped where? Meh.

I could set up default mapping (first 8 channel strips to the 8 faders/encoders/buttons; associated buss to the 9th fader (could be the master buss); master buss to the 10th fader/buttons). Then, on follow, the first 8 tracks would default to the 8 faders and the followed buss/track would default to the 9th fader.

That would be very cool.

I'm using color association to help in identifying a particular buss or stem if mixes become dense, granted, I'm also using two monitors which would make my workflow better than only using one, since I put the console view completely in one monitor with buses. It has really helped to make a template and color it accordingly. I don't always use everything in the template, but it's nice to come to a similar project all ready to go.
I hear you saying that you only want to display said stems. A great idea for those who use one screen and have too much info at once.

Identification seems to be a major problem on larger mixes. I think the same way about tying in soft synths and their respective tracks on the synth view. If we could color those to match it would certainly help, or map some kind of associated "cluster" and then allow it to be brought to the forefront as you say with busses and stems.

Unfortunately I don't see a lot of future support for the VS700 because it was a Roland product and Tascam is now more a part of Cakewalk....I could be wrong though.

Hi Starise,
yeah VS700 is secondary in this feature "request".
Nice idea thinking about soft-synths. I usually only use the stereo outs from the synths I use, hence never thought of the many people using multiple outs!! Multiple outs add to the track count significantly. I guess a 'one click, show upstream tracks' would be great for synths too!
Just automatically blend out all the other tracks I do not need to see right now while editing/eq-ing/setting channel strip/adjusting mix balance/or whatever else...

@FreeFlyBertl,
Right. Channel locking is broken as you mentioned which is a shame but channel branch (showing sends on track) seems to work and in relevance to this thread and similar threads about folders in console-view; collapsing folders in TV does reflect on the VS700C. I've got a project with all drums, all vocals, etc. in seperate folders. When I have all folders closed my VS700C only has the master fader up. All other faders are down. Open one folder (in TV) and I have only those tracks on my console....
