I would select the empty space from 0:00 to the start of the song and use the Delete | Delete Hole command with everything ticked.

Just leave your idea and move on, rather than quoting 2 other users and saying their ideas wont work.
The OP never said he had tempo changes, and wow, A whole 3 markers he will have to move. sounds like a lot of "Manual clean up".

My comments were constructive comments in the hopes of enlightening the OP and not intended to offend.  If I provide incomplete information or incorrect information on the forum, I hope that someone corrects my information.  Sorry you took my approach as a "put down" and felt the need to become defensive and resort to scolding comments.  No worries, in future I will no longer quote you.

Ron, thanks for your clear and simple example for the OP.  I, for one, didn't give your comments a second thought.  In fact, I thought pointing out the residual affects of the other processes very helpful even though I knew from experience that was the case (delete hole being the subject of many threads here).  However, I didn't know that your process kept it all in tact and will now not hesitate moving large portions of a project.

Thanks for the solution, Ron.  Certainly explains step by step why the last time I moved things to start at 1:1 (using the first method mentioned in this thread), none of my markers, which I had 12, none of my time signature changes, which I had 8, and none of my tempo changes, which there were only 2 didn't change.  It did only take a couple of minutes to manually fix all that, but probably more telling is that I would have being doing the same manual fixes the next time I moved everything to 1:1, if I hadn't read your post.  

Chuck I didn't find his comments degrading to what you had posted at all. Your method is a good one and will work for a lot of projects and I do that exact move all the time. But only when I know the project has no time changes which for me is 99%. of the time. If there are time changes then I do as said above with paste special. I found that trick by accident a log time ago when I was determined to copy paste a verse into the middle of a song. I just knew it must be possible somehow.  
 
I think it's important to point out flaws in replies. Just today I saw a reply to a thread where the OP is having problems with a Tascam interface. One reply was to use asio4all.. That's not good advice at all. I was going to say something but figured, oh well, if someone reads that and tries it, that's their tough luck. People should not believe everything they read on forums.
I've been known to post something wrong and someone will always point it out to me, I'm always glad when they do and I will go back and edit my post to reflect this so that no one is mislead by my wrong suggestions.
So what you could do is go edit your post with a disclaimer that this will work 99% of the time but not if the song is buggered up by tempo changes and a million markers...

jeezze fellas, i didn't mean to be the source of such controversy. i truly appreciate all your suggestions. many of you guys (seem to me) really know how to use this fabulous software. i've been recording and playing music since i was 17 years old. that was 1972, yes, i am that old. i started using a reel to reel tape recorder that an older friend had, the first professional studio i ever recorded in was in NYC that had a brand new 24 track Studer, which at the time was state of the art. obviously, this was something i didn't have access to very often. the coolest thing i had was a teac porta-studio in '87 or '88 and man, let me tell you, i was da bomb with that. imagine, or remember how cool it was to record 8 tracks on a cassette at home!!
my first computer recording was with a Dell lap top running millennium and the S/W was cakewalk guitar pro, and what a ball breaker it was. but it was wonderful.
anyhow, thank you all for your input and i'm quite sure i'll be back asking dumb questions.

Ya these kids are spoiled rotten, if the computer doesn't magically make the song sound perfect they blame the software. 
So to answer your question in 1982; you'LL need to purchase a de magnitized razor blade and some good quality editing tape. Scotch makes the best. If you have a second machine make a back up first. 

Maybe I was a bit hasty in my reply.
However I am still a firm believer in...  There's a way to share a better idea.

Many of us have wished for a negative measure to be possible to be used for count in. 
That way the song itself would always start at one, the way sheet music is presented. 

 
+1  For me anyway, starting at zero often causes problems, forcing me to open the render it in Sound Forge and adding 1 sec of silence to the start.
