Do you understand the UWP is ***not*** about creating modern apps that ***must*** run on everything?

It's about creating modern applications that can, at developers choosing, run on ***targeted*** Windows 10 devices. I don't understand why so many think a complex application such as Sonar for example would make a good UWP app to run on a phone or tablet. That's ridiculous.

So aside from a PC, which devices do you suggest a complex application like Sonar should target that would make this worthwhile?

Interesting idea, but don't think the demand is there for Windows DAWs in all form factors.

In fact, according to this MS article, development for PC desktop Win32 is still possible using the new platform.  So it is possible to use modern tools and continue development without falling behind.  It's simply what device family API's you target your app for.  So using the same codebase, you can target smaller form factors (or not) as you wish.

A good comparison can be made with Apple.  Even though there seems to be an active music app and device ecosystem growing up around the iPad and iOS, that is still a distinct OS from the desktop MacOSX.  But even Android doesn't seem to be keeping up there.  So where is the demand for Windows devices going to come from?

Microsoft is in desperate need of a Department of Acronyms. UWP? C'mon, how do you pronounce that? "Ooohp"? "youwip"? How can someone write programs for something they can't pronounce?

As a public service I hereby give to Microsoft, with no encumbrances or claims of ownership, the following alternative identifier for these types of programs: UniWin. Runner-up: UniForm (universal platform, geddit?)

LOL.

Like Desired State Configuration (DSC), Chef, and Puppet. They all enforce configuration settings on servers.

Guess which one is Microsoft's?

Im actually a huge fan of UWP. I dont think there will be a version of Sonar ever but I sure would want one. I always felt there's to much legacy code in Sonar. Old stuff that seems like it hasnt been touched by a coder in ages.

I do a lot of digital painting and all the UWP painting apps I use have much better performance than their desktop alternatives like Sketchbook etc. They just have a better feel to them.
