Interesting because my music is about 85% virtual instruments and 15% vocals.  I sometimes use external synths, but less and less as time goes one.

I think you're all making a big thing out of a little thing. The guy quit, goodbye, full stop.

Yes, that's an accurate summary. But as Vastman said:

"Planet is on the verge of mass extinctions because of the me me me... "

...which is why I think the solipsistic nature of this kind of post strikes a nerve. We're not at end-Permian event levels yet, but we're getting there fast. Earth quits, goodbye, full stop.

The sun's circumference will eventually swallow earth's orbit and beyond.  This WILL happen.  There is nothing we've done to cause it.  There is nothing we can do to keep it from happening.

In the mean time, I suggest we concentrate less on what people do and more on how many people there are.  Once the population reaches a certain point, existence alone will exceed the min. resource consumption footprint req'd for our continued survival.

Seriously

Thanks bobF!

It seems petty but if someone makes a big deal about quitting and is whining on the way out I don't have a problem with giving him a big kick up the butt as he walks out the door.

In my quest to find a replacement for Project 5  i wound up seeing the light w Abelton 9 Live ( intro at this point )

Mr C you may have had a lot to do w that one  gulp, I know I bump feathers w you …Yet , I do listen to you

I don't recall you being bumpy, you always seemed pretty sincere.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again...SONAR is a million-dollar recording studio disguised as software, Ableton Live is a musical instrument disguised as software. To me, they have many more differences than similarities. The fact that I use SONAR for 90% of what I do doesn't diminish my admiration for Live, whose developers had a very specific vision and not only stuck to it, but refined it over the years. Similarly, SONAR to me has always been about pushing the envelope and advancing the state of the art. I think Cakewalk has been consistent there as well.

Appreciate you being kind with your comment   I am very sincere …at times it can feel as if my outspokenness may create conflicts that aren't really there ….

When I was younger , i have recorded in a number of well known multi million dollar studios a few times . It can be a very scary thought in a satisfying way to wake up a few decades later and realize that while I was sitting there watching the engineer set up the drum mics  .My mind would drift into dreaming away along the lines of  "someday I hope to make enough money to have all this "….
SONAR actually intimidates me at this point with it's depth and complexity .Yet , it can be said with total certainty that my dream did come true …
It can become a somewhat frighting thought in a good way to realize that the gift I wished for so much back then was given , it is right here , right now .
I can appreciate the giver behind the gift and the role " Cakewalk " played …now i got to try to move forward and up my progression of learning  …learning how to play Jazz guitar was easy compared to this
even reading this now , it may sound like i'm nuts
I found out a long time ago if you want to stop somebody cold in their tracks give them exactly what they think it is they want. Then it becomes a thing where there are no more excuses to not move forward … in my case if I don't move forward
I got nobody else to blame ….

thanks for doing what you do , you do make a big difference around here

I do find it difficult to line up multiple piano rolls at once and input notes in multiple tracks in Sonar whilst keeping all tracks in view. I tried to do it when I first got the program but it certainly isn't obvious to a newbie like me how it's done (I assume it can be).

Now of course you can always read the manual, but it is a huge and very complicated manual (and program).

I think if you do a lot of piano roll inputting then maybe FL12 is simply more set up for that. Like many here, I can't follow why OP doesn't just use new vsts with FL12 if he just wanted some new synths but was otherwise happy with that program...

If the OP does not want feedback he best not hold his mic right in front of the speaker.

Sorry you did not enjoy Sonar.  I have been with Cakewalk since the 90s.  There have been a lot of changes and it is all great.  But some people love PCS some love Macs, some like ketchup, some like mustard.

I don't like uncooked onions.  I better find a board where I can write about that but ask for no feedback.

Regardless of software, they all have their foibles, mine is-how dare every thing work perfectly, after 4 years of contact with a qwerty and 2 computers when I can't get my head around
Melodyne to be succinct...is it Editor that I upgraded to[with zero authorizations left-do not have a clue how that happened?] or is it Singletrack?

Fruity loops,i thought that was changed to FL STUDIO to make it sound less lollipop? Studio 1/3 spiking the latest 14 core Xeons,Cubase playing it's own A.I. version of MIDI,as Samplitude costing $4,000 in Australia, didn't Windows 95 era DAW's cost $3,000 minimum, whilst having the CPU power to run 1 plugin?

If you understand the amazingness of Platinum [I do mostly except melodyne and it's horrible results of making guitar players who could never bend properly,or with vibrato that sounds like a job interview, now sounding as good as Elliot Randall !!!!!] that makes me feel like I really did waste my life, but announcing you given up on a brand of Daw for another, you make me seem like a genius.
I certainly are not,but thanks anyway :)

I've always been of the opinion that the guys who sign in to say goodbye to SONAR are just here to yank our chains. That doesn't diminish the joy I get out of reading Craig's posts.
