Hi All,
Just finished up a new instrumental ballad featuring a simple guitar melody and a fairly sparse arrangement (vs. some of my other tunes).   I originally wrote it 20-25 years ago and did one recording about 10-15 years ago, but could only ever find an audio CD - no projects or anything file based.  So it was back to the drawing board for a complete redo using today's tools and with a few more years of experience.

Edit: New mix just uploaded - less dry guitar signal during the intro, a few less cymbal crashes throughout, and I've added the Nomad Factory Pultec EQ emulation to the guitar bus to help smooth out the hi-mids/hi's without dulling it.  Same link.

Thanks...

Really nice melody, production and feel Steve - enjoyed it a lot.
Mix-wise, the main guitar seems a bit loud in the mix for me (listening on crappy speakers so may be talking out of my arse)

In pink flamingos john waters had (literally) a talking arse.  Pretty funny if not obscene.  Would Monty python stoop so low?  I enjoyed this very much (similarities with the beatles song notwithstanding).  It would be great if you could sell to a muzak type service.  It made me want to shop for some reason.

Hey Steve,

I'm with Daryl and agree that the lead is a bit loud overall. Otherwise, this is a solid mix with a well-balanced range of frequencies. Don't know why, but I keep wanting to sing "Don't let me down".

Regards,
Dan

Thanks, Daryl!  I did actually tame the guitar a bit already, but those hi-mids might worth another look...

Thanks, David!  No flamingos were harmed in the making of this tune.  With that out of the way, the Beatles reference actually hadn't occurred to me before, but now that you mention it....

Thanks, Dan!  That's two for the guitar lead, so definitely something for me to review.  I should be able to sit it better easy enough.   I listened to a lot of Beatles growing up, so I think the osmosis has taken effect...

excellent playing of course. as you say sparse mix. i kept wanting to hear some subtle organ in the back at the start so when that came in I was happy! agree lead is a bit out front and drums are too far back.

I like the song.  I think the sparse mix fits the song.  It would be nice to add a small sample of the cd recording for comparison between then and now.

My one complaint is not a complaint but more a matter of taste.  I don't like the large number of cymbal crashes.  I just don't think a drummer would play a crash so many crashes.  Some ways to get around wanting to use so many crashes would be to go to the toms, create high hat fills or switch between drum sets (brushes first verse, jazz set second, etc.).

Thanks, Mark!   Yeah, the organ was planned from the beginning, so nice to it's wanted.   And check on the guitar level, will work on that.

Thanks, Jim!   I don't know where I'd put the original version, but something work thinking about...   as is the cymbal crashes.  Some actually are open hihat hits, but I'll go back and revisit that anyway.

A nice mellow piece. I liked the organ, I thought the guitar sounded good too (at least on my system). I enjoyed listening.
