Hey All,

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but my system performance monitor is off the chain. Meaning that when I open a template with only 1 synth that has recorded midi, my 24 cores immediately max out. I honestly cant recall if it's from this most recent update (today), or the one before (last week). Of course, I investigated the issue with LatencyMon (passed), DPC Latency Checker (passed) & Windows Task Mgr. Oddly, when I turned on Windows Task Mgr, Cakewalk's system processes meter went back to normal. On the other hand, when I closed Task Mgr, the meter began to spike again. Any thoughts? I don't mind keeping Task Mgr open while I run Cakewalk, but it's not ideal. Thank you all.

What option do you have it set to monitor?

Can't believe TTS-1 would do that. Never seen it perform that way ever.

just the one template causes this?

Is that not a server machine, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but I did not think Xeon Server CPU's were all that suitable for use in DAW's, something to do with their micro code set.  As I said I may be wrong.

Some background task is monopolizing your system resources. I doubt it's the synth, or any other thread within the DAW. That it goes away while running Task Manager is troubling, as that is behavior a clever virus might exhibit.

Download a copy of Process Explorer from Sysinternals if you don't already have it. It will show far more information than Task Manager. While you're there, also grab a copy of Autoruns to see what's automatically starting up when you boot. Another good sleuthing tool is CurrPorts from Nirsoft, which reveals all your network connections and what processes are using them.

Are you using a power plan with 100% cpu? Turbo disabled?

24 cores?  It wouldn't surprise me if CbB's performance monitor is just getting confused. Maybe it can't cope with more than 8?

The performance module displays up to 32 cores - from https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=ControlBar.11.html

The Performance module contains the following controls:

CPU meters. The CPU meters let you monitor your computer’s CPU activity. Right-click the CPU meters to specify the global CPU meter mode:

Audio Processing. Measures Cakewalk’s audio processing load, which is the time it takes to process a buffer full of audio data as a percentage of the maximum time available to process that data and maintain uninterrupted playback. There is one CPU meter for each core in your computer, up to 32 cores. There is some tolerance built into the meter, so it is possible that it will exceed 100% at times (more so during recording than playback).

System Performance. Displays the global system-wide load across all cores, as reported by the operating system rather than by measuring Cakewalk’s audio processing load.

Overall App Performance. Displays a single CPU meter for the entire Cakewalk process CPU utilization across all cores.

But CbB will use all the cores made available by the OS.
