I'm sure there must be a one-click preferences fix for this, but it's a new one for me.......

I open up a take lane with 2 takes. Put the cursor anywhere inside one of the lanes and click to edit the take. As soon as I click, the other take lane mutes itself (turns grey). This has never happened before. Something I must've changed somewhere. How do I stop this from happening?

Thanks All.

I could be wrong here but hear me out.
I believe this is by default to assist in hearing the takes as one part.
If it didn't do this you would hear a jumbled mess of all takes.

If you want to hear each take separately, use the mute / or solo buttons.

All I'm trying to do is split one of the takes. Nothing else. This never happened previously. So there must be some default preference or something that I changed.

Jeff,

I am assuming you are using the latest version of Platinum and the Smart Tool.
The Smart Tool changes function depending on whether the mouse cursor is in the top or bottom region of the clip.

When the mouse cursor is in the bottom of the clip, the Smart Tool becomes a Comping tool and the mouse cursor changes to a vertical bar with 3 small horizontal bars below it.  The Comping tool solos the clip you click on, muting all other takes.  This is normal behavior.

When the mouse cursor is in the top of the clip, the Smart Tool becomes a Select tool and the mouse cursor becomes an "I" beam.

As long as you click the clip when the "I" beam is displayed in the top of the clip, you should be able to select and split the clip with no other takes being muted.

Hope this helps,

Duh, Jeff! That was it. I think the flu medication I was on was messing with my brain.

Thanks so much, Ron!
