I want to send audio to another programme from SONAR, so I installed VB-Audio. While Windows sees it as a device in Device Manager and the other programme can see it as an input, SONAR does not see it as a device for audio output.

Any ideas anyone has would be much appreciated.

Is your audio driver mode set to wasapi (not exclusive)? AFAIK virtual audio cables do not work with ASIO drivers.

Actually,  just looking their website you can run asio but will need to install 'asio bridge'. Wasapi might be worth a try first.

Sonar will only see a device that is listed as either its input timer or output timing device. Usually this has to be the same device as its relient on the devices audio driver.

You will have to turn on VB cable as the output driver.

Hi. I just tried WASAPI and yeah the "Cable" did appear as an output. I set it as the output device, but even though I set it as an input on the other programme, (an Audio/MIDI to visuals generator) nothing happens. I also tried Ethernet MIDI and MIDI data, but again nothing at the other end. :(

So where I am ATM is that I have to choose WDM/KS as my mode, because if I use WASAPI my m-Audio card just makes a horrid distorted scratching. I then have to duplicate the audio track, so that one track goes to the Virtual Cable and the other to the m-Audio card. Then I can make the visualiser work and hear the music!

I knew this was a bad idea.

VB Cable and Voicemeeter all from the same family, take a bit of getting your head around their workings. I don't use them often but find I always have to watch the videos on their site to come to grips with it all.

Have you done that? That's about my best suggestion at the moment.

OK I will have a look, thanks. I seem to have them working, or at least VB Cable and Ethernet MIDI. But so far it's messy.

I'm sorry I don't have the time at the moment to go through this more thoroughly with you.

S'OK! I sorted it. I realised that the m-Audio had a Monitor output. So  could send just one audio track to the m_audio and then monitor that in the other programme.

I used Ethernet MIDI for its 60 minutes then it said I had to reboot to use it again...and the purchase price is Eu65!

So I grabbed Loopbe 1. As far as I can see I still have to dupe any MIDI tracks that I want to send to both a synth and to the other programme. Of course I can also use other tracks that have just controllers and stuff and they only go to the MIDI stream, not to a synth.
