Hi all,

First thing, in MIDI Groove Clips, SmartLoops, there's a lot of loops there that appear to be for drums judging by the name (Busy Tom Fill), but all of events are assigned to channel 1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but drums are traditionally assigned to channel 10, yes? This paragraph is just to note to Cakewalk folk (if I'm write), there's a whole bunch of them in this condition.

At any rate, I sighed and decided to bulk change the events, but I couldn't find a way. I know how to use the Select tool to select them all, but a right click only edits the event under the cursor. I tried other stuff, like editing in the Event List, but no go for Channel. (Although I did find help for bulk changing other properties, such as note value or velocities, etc.)

Did I miss something?

Thanks,
Chris

By convention channel 10 is used for drums but in a DAW this convention is rarely followed especially if everything is done in the box. All the software drum synths I have encountered including TTS-1 which is a GM synth can play drums on any channel.

One way to change the channel assignment in bulk is select the clip and use the Event Inspector module. Another way that does not alter the track data is the channel drop down in the MIDI track or inspector.

Thanks, I'll try both of those two methods.

I see what you mean about the conventions being different in a DAW, but it's a little disconcerting when you're going through the Sonar Tutorials, it asks you to pull up and play some drum loops, and it starts playing piano notes. I realize that the tutorial writers can't cover all configurations, but this would have been a good place for a "Note" balloon that covered the "If you are not hearing drum sounds as expected ..." information with quick tips on how to correct it. (Sometimes there is such a note, but wasn't in this case.)

Thanks again for the reply.
Chris
