  • Mix Recall: Do you use it? Is it reliable? (p.3)

When I remember to.
And yes, it's reliable even if I'm not!

So I think Mix Recall is very cool. The key to getting the most out of it is understanding the Mix Recall settings options. If you don't know how those work, you might as well not use Mix Recall.

That needs to be emphasised *100

Mix recall options unlock its full power and control its speed. Those of you comparing it to mix recall on digital consoles should remember that consoles like e.g. X32 don't use any 3rd party plugs - and recalling e.g. a Sonar mix that only relies on the ProChannel is also quick

I truly think Mix Recall is Sonar's top feature since the monthly releases were started.

I'm currently experimenting with how to get the best workflow that combines Mix Recall, Lenses and Screensets.

I don't really get this feature. Why is saving a mix different from saving the project. What part of a project is not part of the mix? Audio clips, midi clips, softsynths, effects, track settings, automation. What else is there?

Everything else that went into making my song sound great that I don't want you to hear
There is some truth to what I'm saying ....... even though I may have said this kidding around w you

I have used Mix Recall various ways . It has proven to be a feature I'm glad to have in SONAR .

A couple of fast uses in the most simplest of terms .

I have always put a lot of playing parts into my songs using synths , guitars and various other tools and musical instruments ...
Things can get a little dense . Often times it is simply much better for me to keep what I have laid down and do a critical listening session later on when I'm in a more objective state of mind ...
I like to use Mix Recall VIA a subtraction principle to flesh out my song ideas ...think the statue David as the chisel removes all that is not David.

As a guitarist I have used Mix Recall to audition some of my guitar sounds that I may want to print ....
Doubled or cloned tracks of guitars using various different effects chains and amp sims...
Mix Recall makes it pretty easy to create mix's I can listen to and live with for a spell as I decide away from my DAW what sounds the best to my ears and artistic vision ...

Rather than go on and on and give a few dozen examples of things I like about Mix Recall I think one of the things I like the most about M R  is this ....
Mix Recall is always sitting there silently in the cut just waiting for me to spend another hundred or two hours learning how to get much better at using a computer and DAW VIA tutorials , videos , the written word or anyway that happens to bump up my skills another notch ....

I have found it to be a very interesting experience to go back to a project where I had been using Mix Recall .
When I went back after learning a few new to me things I was able to dial it in a lot faster because I had a lot of failed mix's to compare in my project

Mix Recall has saved me from a lifetime of having to live with song posters regret

all the best,

Kenny

But what can it do that Save As can't do? I must be missing something obvious.

Partial recall ... meaning you can take drum sub mix from mix A and vox FX from mix B ...

How you do that with 2 saved files????

Save as saves all of a project.

Mix Recall allows me to save just certain settings

So I can be doing my mix, open up MR, select which bits of data I want to save. Continue mixing my project as usual. Now I can at will Recall any of the mix settings that I've saved and apply them back to my project.
Save as doesn't even come close to the this flexibility.
Just open up the Mix Recall dialog and check out all the setting that you can save and Recall.
What's more by a little jiggers pokery I can apply a bunch of saved settings to another project entirely.

Hmmmm .......I am finally starting to get the concept and viable uses of the Mix Recall feature by this simple and concise response.

This response is very helpful in grasping the concept and expanded possibilities of using the Mix Recall feature.
