Hi everyone, I'm wanting to add another set of phones along w/ the ATX-M50 (old model) I already have and I'm trying to make sure I buy the right Ohm version. Currently I use a Mackie 1402vlz3 for monitoring via its headphone input. The Audio Technica ATX-M50 is 38ohm and sounds great and gets plenty loud in the Mackie phones input (gets plenty loud plugged straight into my phone too, probably due to the lower Ohms), but the DT 770 is available in 32ohm, 80ohm and 250ohm - and it sounds like most people are using either the 80ohm or 250ohm with some saying the 80ohm has more bass but that the 250ohm is really for critical listening/mixing. I plan to use the DT 770 for tracking and mixing along w/ my monitors and ATX-M50s. So for using the Mackie headphone input - and possibly a headphone input directly on an interface at some point - which Ohm version is best here for the Bayerdynamic DT 770 Pro to make sure they'll be loud enough? What are you guys using? Thanks!

My DT 880 headphones are 250 ohms. They do NOT work well with phones. I would go with 250 unless you plan on also using them with a low-powered device like a phone. I'd go with the 80 ohm in that case.

It really comes down to what you will use to drive the headphones.
 
If you're going to strictly use the Mackie mixer (or any other quality dedicated headphone amp) with these phones, then I'd go with the 250 ohm model.
 
If you should ever need to plug the phones straight into an audio interface, most can't provide a strong enough signal -- especially if they're bus-powered.  In this case, the 80ohm model would be preferable.
 

I have the 250 ohm version of the 990 headphones and feel like I wish my UAD Apollo were a bit higher output to leverage them...
