james , the md/side per node and the spectrum s worth an upgrade (not a full purchase imho) ,  own sonnox here , it's trused and sounds pristne , but one thing with pro Q s that t's easy on cpu /// 'm tired of having to deal with some pluhgins like havin a piece of HW !! testing as  write Taupe and El Rey , love them , sounds exeptionnal :::: at 96k not 44k so those two insterted and i barely have room for the rest of my plugins ::: with what i spend a year in plugin , i m starting to wonder if HW wouldn't be it and voila !! (an ssl fusion comes to mind to polish mixes and done!!)

Thanks Zo!

My upgrade price was $66.23.

I actually just got a refund from FabFilter. I agree that there is some value there, but I have Mercury, I have Melda's EQ that does the sidechain - I was hoping to use Q3 to reduce my reliance on the other plugins and consolidate a little. Since it doesn't quite get there, it doesn't really add anything for me. I admit the idea of having some nodes stereo and some mid-side is attractive, but not worth the money.

Here was FabFilter's reply to my refund request:

Hi James,

No problem, I've requested a refund for your order with Cleverbridge.

We do think though, that even without dedicated attack and release controls and external side input, the dynamic EQ feature in Pro-Q 3 is very useful for say 90% of your dynamic EQing needs. So maybe you'd still like to give the trial version a go to see how it works for you. :)

Again, the new features he mentions are great, but I have plugins that already do that and more...

PS: Totally get the hardware comment. I'm now in a fullblown hybrid system with outboard and LOVING IT! :)

I'm with Bitflipper on this one. Also, Q3 seems like a cash-grab, IMO.

I seem to recall that C2 had an intro discount bringing it down to around $45 for previous version owners.
IMHO that's a much more reasonable upgrade price for Q2 owners.
I'm going to have to pass a the moment. No intro discount, right after Black Friday, Hanukah starts this weekend (Sunday Dec 2nd) followed by Christmas - so not a top priority considering the poor timing of the release and when I already have the Melda equivalent that, at the moment, has sidechaining when Q3 doesn't.

Mine's £54.94 because I own the Compressor and Limiter and didn't upgrade those either. I'll pass on this one as well. I can't see me using any of the new features listed.

This is my take on it as well, pretty much.  I do deeply admire that company and love their plug-ins dearly, but version 3 only has one new feature I'd probably ever use, and that would be extremely rarely (plus I have a quite capable IKM EQ that already does separate L/R or M/S settings, and I'd be very surprised if my Melda EQs don't already do this as well).

I passed on the FF upgraded limiter as well - just what was I missing in the initial version.  You've got a limiter that is already delivers perfection, so you need something more perfect?  FF is shooting themselves in the foot by doing just too good a job the first time around.

That is the gist of my take, too. Pro-Q is already really good, so these enhancements feel like frosting on the cake. Still, I'm looking forward to testing it out. Who knows? One of those new features might just be an unexpected key to the dungeon (odd analogy, I know; I've been playing Skyrim).

Being you can view other tracks with Q3 on them, and it highlights problem frequencies, it does seem a little short sighted not to allow side chaining with those tracks. I almost seems set up to the job with ease. I hope reviews don't get too precious bout their favourite developer and mark this as Con. Fabfilter should be able to implement this without too much of a GUI change. Would be so good on kick and bass.

I only have a small fabfilter collection, and Quad Eq is fine or my needs. My price is $113, which seems to have been the discounters price recently. I can wait for a sale from fabfilter

I can only say that FabFilter rocks big time. This is yet another amazing upgrade. It is indeed the best EQ experience ever. The dynamic EQ works so well and the whole thing looks so good, I’ve thrown every competitor in the bin (at least for a while).

When I thanked their customer support department, I received this email:

Hi James,

No problem! We're getting quite some requests for the side-chaining feature so we might just add that in a future update...

Cheers,
