Recently I posted about the Piano Roll not allowing me to navigate properly. I thought I had fixed it, but now I have just started a new project and it has come back...in aces! This started happening after the first note placement, so it's as simple as it can get.

EDIT: My process was: open a blank project. Add a MIDI track (Insert: MIDI track), insert an instance of Dim Pro, then assign the output of the MIDI track to the Dim Pro. Then placed I notes on the Piano Roll.

Platinum 22:9:42 Build 42   64 bit

The first note I placed was at 1:01:000 I adjusted its length and then placed another note event. It appeared at 1:3:561 and also the time indicator line jumped to there in both the Piano Roll and Track Pane.

Then I could not move the time indicator line in the Piano Roll, but only over the Track Pane. If I use the Track Pane to set the time to 1:01:000, if I then so much as click on the Piano Roll, it jumps to 1:3:561

All notes now default to 1:3:561 as their start point, no matter where I place them in the Piano Roll. I can then place them correctly.

Clearing all notes resulted in everything now jumping to 1:01:280

Any help GREATLY appreciated! I am flummoxed.

Sorry, I have never experienced this so I don't know if I can help.

It may have something to do with putting the first note at 1:01:000? Can you try to see what happens if you do the same steps but put don't put the first note at exactly 1:01:000?  Screen shots might also be of some help to others that may view this.

Not that it should matter for your issue, but it is best practice to never place any events at 1:1.
Those events can be missed. Almost all of us start at measure 2. It's been a feature request to allow us to insert negative measures for count ins as would be logical for song pattern layout.

Have you tried changing your draw note values? or the snap settings? Sounds like something amiss there.

I agree with Johnny on the snap settings idea. sounds like it is snapping to zero crossings vs snapping to grid.

I thought I had posted a reply….

Anyway, thanks for the ideas.

I seriously do not think it is anything to do with the first note being at 1:01:000. Normally I would leave a gap, but I was just placing notes at random for this. ATM SONAR is refusing to place notes anywhere else _but_ 1:01:000!

I tried snap settings and that has not helped. I can’t see how I could be getting zero crossing snap, with no audio at all. At one stage the notes would go to one location if I used a double click on the smart tool and another location if I used the draw tool.

I tried two older versions of SONAR and they were OK.

Maybe I will just update to the latest version and see what happens....when Tell$tra lets me have more than 65KB/s downloads :(

So....solved it. I updated the drivers for my video card and all is well...except that now Plat and my photo processing software, Paint Shop Pro Photo, cannot close without crashing :(. I close the window and I am told the programme has stopped unexpectedly.

I was going to say it may be a video card/driver issue... but I'm too late.  I've had countless video issues like that over the years with every version of Sonar known to me (which is only a handful).

As far as starting notes @1:01:000, I've done that with every project I've ever done over the past 16 years with no issues that I can remember, so that should not be a problem.

As far as Sonar crashing, my version likes to crash as soon as I click it's icon to open it. Crashing before it's even open... Let's face it - Sonar luvs tu crash! Period! that would be one of these: (.)

OK I am sure that SONAR has given you grief. I am sorry.

I have been very lucky...until now.

Normally I wait for a (year) few months and let others deal with the carp.... that thrashes about on the hook. It usually works. Here it has not for me.

Here the thing is that all my video-intensive  programmes are having trouble....photo ...video.

Where SONAR is concerned I am pretty retro on the techno front (sort of back really)

SONAR is actually a very video-intensive programme....especially as now I believe it allows tough (sorry touch.....TOUGH screen is what all computers need from time to time) screen, which will impinge even if not needed IMO.

I am NOT an apologist...ever. But when a company tries to keep up with the latest (I do question the need vs rock solid there will be problems

I'm not griping about Sonar's luv uv crashing, just informing. Like you I really only use Sonar and a few photo editing and drawing progs which all have huge graphical needs. I try to only use one at a time but sometimes I forget and wind up running 'em all at once. Sonar is usually the first to let me know not to do that.

As of late, tho, my audio drivers are stealing the show.
