  • Strange Volume Difference Unfreezing/Re-Freezing AD2 since 2017.01

I just had a strange experience. Maybe something I did and don't remember or realize?

I unfroze my AD2 and the volume of all outputs seems to have dropped 4db...?

If I undo the unFreeze, the gain is correct.

As I needed to do some edits I did so and then froze the increased all outputs 4db and Re-Frozed

Volumes are correct. Un-Freezing remains consistent. Did something change in MIDI that may have caused this?

Nothing major. I didn't have time to explore more thoughts such as if I now needed to increase MIDI velocities as opposed to the instrument outputs of AD2? They sound right... I think... So I'm guessing it's the output volume itself which was always typically loud to begin with! ;-)

Hmmm...

No one else? Is there a thread I missed?

A different piece. Freezing AD2 and/or Session Drummer 2 is giving different levels after freezing.

Any chance you recorded the audio for the synth track and the midi? It may be that you are playing back both. Just a thought.

Thanks...

Not sure what you mean, but I did as I always have in both pieces. I have a midi track feeding the vsynth with numerous audio outs (discrete per piece)...

I simply froze my he track and all of the resultant frozen tracks are a good ~4db louder. Unfreezing returns to the "correct" level.

If you didn't record the audio outs then my suggestion isn't helpful.

Thanks though. I appreciate all attempts!

usually when volume is impacted by @3dB it's a doubling of the audio somehow. Maybe a send that is coming back? Are you routing the sound out twice somehow? or duplicating?

Nothing unusual. The same as I've been doing for years.

AD2 multi-outs into Sonar so I process each piece there myself. The same nth outs go to a subgroup for drums which goes to the master.

I've been running this way for years and I have not seen this happen before...

Thanks.

Just in one project?

My test would be
Save the AD2 kit inside of AD2 where you can name your own kits.
Save and Close old project
start a new blank project
Insert AD2
play - observe vol. level
freeze
compare

If then it's just in that one project
I'd totally remove AD2 (but keep any midi pointing at AD2)
Delete all associated audio tracks and busses related to AD2

Insert a new instace of AD2 and test to see if problem is gone.

Thanks Steve.

I freeze and unfreeze my tracks often during the work on a song.

I've now found this same issue on a second song (so far "every" song).

I call my drum setup from a template I created long ago when we first received AD2 so it is the same in each of my songs until I tweak anything for the new song created.

Of course this is no major snafu, but something is wrong when I freeze and it just started happening.

Not sure why and it seems no one else is experiencing it so it must be something local.

I will start a new project and painstakingly triple-check my procedures to scrutinize this more...

Thanks!
