  • Is this possible in sonar platinum? Timer and samples

Hopefully this is an easy question.  So...  can you highlight a portion of a track and have it tell you how many 'samples' you have highlighted?  I cant seem to find this anywhere if its possible.

When Im doing phase corrections and what not when using multiple mics, I do this manually where I change the timer up top to 'samples', zoom way in so I can see the two wave forms Im comparing and then I basically have to note samples value at the beginning of the wave form on track A, and then note the sample value at the beginning of track B and subtract to get the difference.  Then I use the nudge function to move one of the two tracks by the number of samples that they are off.

Basically Id like to eliminate the math and just be able to highlight from the start of the wave on track a to the start of the wave on track B and have sonar tell me that I've highlighted 80 samples for example.

Thanks!

Viewing selection length in general is not possible I think, which is a shame. Other than that I think you can set the "big time" clock to samples.

You can temporarily split clips and use clip length display as samples in the inspector ...

Here's what I do: split all clips with now time at the reference to where I want to correct phase shift to ... then look at individual clip and split at where you see the phase shift ... now in clip inspector you see clip length in samples ... note that down ... repeat for all tracks... then undo all splits and nudge by amount of samples noted per track ...

The Inspector can show the length in samples of any clip. Select the clip, and choose Samples as the Time Format.

However it won't show the length of a highlighted section within a clip. Probably the quickest way to do this is:

  1. Create a blank track underneath (or above) the track whose highlighted section you want to measure.
  2. Click on the highlighted section's Clip handle, then shift+drag into the blank track. The section you highlighted is now a clip and the Inspector will show the length in samples.
  3. Type Ctrl+Z to restore the highlighted section back into the clip.

ahh lots of clever ideas guys!  Bummer you cant just simply highlight a portion and have it tell you, but at least there are ways to get there.

thanks folks!

Sonar is more of a jack of all trades and not a detailed Audio editor per say.
Something like Sony Soundforge may be a better alternative for doing microscopic Audio work (dealing with samples, exc).
I will agree with you though, it would be a nice feature to have.
