Sorry folks i forgot to mention my sound card is an E-mu 0404 pci 24 bit ,going in into windows 7 home premium with sonar 7 pro e/d . on cpu 4 gig ram. Would it be compatible ? would this run straight off? or will i have to download any special service packs driver etc......??

You should contact Creative Support to be sure.

If you are using the same PC and simply upgrading the OS, you should be fine. If it is a new PC, it must have the proper slot for the card and compatible drivers. This card is EOL by EMu, so you may be looking for a new card.

Hi Many thanks for reply . Im using the same pc ..so i wouldnt need any updates or drivers as its a 24 bit sound card ?

No. The driver is the interface between the device and the operating system, so if you change the OS, you will need a Win 7 compatible driver. It is possible that a Vista driver might work in Win 7, but an XP driver will almost certainly not.

Yes, David is correct. I was thinking more about hardware compatibility. You will need at least Vista-level drivers. Win7 drivers should be available on Creative's site though.

Hi guys ..i have looked on creative but couldnt see no downloads for windows 7 drivers unless i wasnt on the right page ... when i install windows 7 would the driver os not be with it? or is it a download driver that i would need? sorry for questions im laid up in bed on an opp recovery and just waiting for my windows 7 32 bit installation cd to arrive so when im well, i want to make sure i have all i need, to install it

It does not appear that there are any drivers for that card that are written for Win 7.  You might try the Vista drivers, but I would not be surprised if they didn't work.

so i basically wont be able to use windows 7 with 0404 pci  24 bit sound card? if thats the case.... but im sure peeps are using the same set up somewhere who could advise as windows 7 is still selling .if not i will search around .i know the card is old but it works for me if its not compatible i will change my sound card but hopefully not .

If you use "older" drivers, you can right-click them and set Compatibility to the last known OS they worked under. This is not always 100% but it has worked for me a time or two.
