Guys

I got and love the Tascam 2x2 but recently I lost the " what you hear" function in Win 7 Pro x64.  I use it a lot in Sound Forge to record you tube songs to learn in the band. In Windows sound properties, I have mixing driver selected as the default device but the level meter never displays anything on any choice.

Also, Windows sound recorder doesn't work so I know it's not just SF.

I'm asking here because you guys have always been really helpful and knowledgeable!

Thanks

A couple of questions:

1) By "recently", do you mean after updating to the v2.0 driver in early November?

2) Are you talking about Windows default Recording device or Playback device, or both?

3) If both, which level meter are you looking at?

I have the 16x08, and it just got the Mixing driver added to it in v2.0. The 2x2 and 4x4 got the Mixing driver back with v1.30 in July.

One solution to look at, and one that you could find several other good uses for, is to use VoiceMeeter Banana. FWIW, it's donationware. I gave €20 for it. But it runs full-function without a donation. Super easy to test. Actively updated. Been very stable for me.

There are a lot of videos on it. Here's one.

Thanks so much for your help. This was nothing to do with 2.0, I actually updated to it and it did not help. A tascam Tech said to roll back which I did.

I'm talking Windows default recording device.  Playback is fine.  The "meters" are in the windows/sound/recording panel.  Each device has a level meter that usually shows activity like the playback panel.  I get no activity on any choice.

I'm sure it's not a Sound Forge issue because Windows sound recorder isn't working either.

I'm not sure when it stopped working because I don't use this all the time, even rolled backed Windows a few months with no results.

I'll check out the link you provided.

Thanks again for your help,

Bob

I use this all time to directly download utubes. There is the option to just download the audio. Best thing about this is you don't install anything locally. Just copy paste the u tube ulr into the dialog box and that's it.

There are places, other than this forum, where he is touting Gibson products.  e.g. there are a couple of videos on the Sweetwater Music web site of him "talking" about several Gibson owned products.

As I noted Craig is very knowledgeable and I consider him in the "Guru" category for his many years with music electronics.

Yes, and that's when he's clearly acting in his VP role with the company. His contributions here are his own, clearly stated so.

Also, it's completely bogus to compare a $1-2K interface to a $100-200 one.

A lesson learned from the collapse of Polaroid was the head of R&D's admission (in a Harvard Business Review case study) that they didn't know when "good was good enough". While they kept trying to get that last little bit of technical brilliance into their new generation of products, the market and their competitors left them in the dust.

Serious question for you...

Which would yield a better sounding unprocessed vocal track in SONAR, the best mic in the mic cabinet run through a UR22mkII, or an entry level mic like a cheap Asian knockoff off of a Shure SM58 run through your Motu?
