My Roland - Edirol works fine so far. Yes, occasional crashes with Melodyne happen, no big deal. But changing DAW and computer every time you are fed up with crashes would be quite an expensive solution.

I've a Cakewalk UA-101 interface, originally an Edirol product until Roland bought Edirol and decided to rebadge the interfaces as "Cakewalk".

It worked very well for several years until eventually the USB socket gave up. Stable round trip latency of around 12ms was pretty stable, though the UFX on the same PC hardware is better and handles far more ins and outs at while it's doing it.

The Roland supplied drivers were also pretty good. The only problem I recall was with Sonar X1 where adjusting the channel eqs while playing back a project resulted in a zipping noise and loop recording where each pass through the loop was shortened by the time set in the audio buffer. Switching to Roland's WASAPI drivers fixed that and the performance was very, very nearly as good as ASIO. Cake then fixed both problems as part of the series of X1 bug-fixes.

The Roland badged interfaces that replaced the ones they took over from Edirol never seem to have quite reached the same standard going by what I've read in various forums. A pity as a big Roland interface would have cost me quite a lot less than an RME.

MarioDI agree.  I wasn't trying to be down on Macs.  If you or anyone else got that impression I apologize.

My point was if you are on-line you not only have to be careful you also need backups.  He got a false sense of security purchasing a Mac.  Safer yes but infallible no.  He is one person whom should not have a computer.

No, I'm not being critical or defensive. The bad guys work hard to break into any computer these days.

I'm just amazed that someone would go to the trouble of defeating, over-riding or just plain ignoring a Unix/Linux/Mac system's built in account controls, security and back-up system then think they were safe and secure. It's like driving without a seat belt and thinking you'll be OK because you're a good driver and won't run into anything. Which is fine if you're the only vehicle on the road.

Then again I used to gig with someone who was running Windows 98 on-line in 2012 and had never updated Windows or Norton's virus databases since he bought the PC in 1999. He was scared that the automated updaters might "go to the wrong site and download a virus" and was sure he was OK because his PC was "just as it was shipped so doesn't have any security problems and no viruses". Which did make me wonder how he knew that....

Is it just me ? . . . or is this another thread where someone posts a thread suggesting they want to leave, and we all try to continually suggest the reasons why they shouldn't leave ? Don't' get me wrong, there's a great discussion happening, but it is gradually straying away from the original post point.

I find it curious when someone starts a thread about leaving, especially since they don't even participate any further in the thread . . . and it goes on and mutates into something else. Can't we just let them leave ?

Coming from a Roland interface I think that QuadCapture may be part of your poor situation ... I could never obtain full stability while I was still on the Roland audio drivers. While it got somewhat better with Platinum, it only got resolved properly when switching to a different interface brand.

Also, X3 is old. Melodyne 4 is new. I even had issues (minor ones, no crashes though) with Platinum and Melodyne 2.x which were much closer in sync ... problems disappeared once I upgraded to Melodyne 4 which seems to go fine with Platinum.

I experienced instability, crashes, etc., with Quad Capture but after switching to Motu I have not had problems. That's not to say that there won't be problems...but the previous issues seem to have been resolved.

Yep. Just let them go.

Gotta +1 SPLAT. I'm running it on a computer that I bought off EBay and upgraded myself. It's got the latest WIN10 Pro OS and drivers. I run a M-Audio 1010LT I also picked up off of EBay. I'm very happy with the result. This is the most reliable system I've had in years. I can't image that a purpose built, properly tweaked system wouldn't be even better.

Normally I would agree with you, but in this case, the OP posed a question rather than made a statement. So, I'll answer the OP's question:

No.
