Faderport 8 is an excellent product although nearly double the price here in Australia so that does make it a bit hard.
It is far more than the original Faderport, not just 7 more faders.  The real power comes in controlling Studio One. It is light years of even the Mackie in this regard. It is very deep in this regard and unless you use the two things together you will never really appreciate it in that context. But as for controlling another DAW it may only be similar to what is doing that now.

I have to give some credit to john.
I was in the market for a control surface for many years. I was using a keyboard controller and a VS 20.
combined I had 16 faders and 8 knobs but not motorized and it was cheap.

I was in the market for a control surface, I Knew John had a Mackie control, so I messaged him and he gave me a good run down on it.
then I found one on Craigslist and sent john the link. the guy was cool enough to tell me this was a good deal.
Then I bought, hooked it up and it wouldn't scroll, so I messaged him to ask him about that .
(I had the scroll lock on).

but I have to say, he went out of his way to help me out in my choice and I am so glad.
because this Mackie control is the best choice, best upgrade my studio has had.
I know I've said it before john, but seriously, thanks a lot. there's only a few people on this forum that have impacted me as much as you have. very grateful.

This might shed some light on it. https://www.resolutionmag.../Logic-Platinum-V5.pdf

Don't get me wrong folks,  I love my MCU, I am the proud owner of a MCU and have been for years ever since I gave up my BCF200 many years ago.  MY problem is that My Faders were giving me the Calibration error message quite often and it was getting on my nerves.   I didn't want to invest in the high price of the MCU Pro but I wanted the same features of my MCU with Sonar.

Someone suggested buying CAIG DeoxIT FaderLube which I did and that did the trick.  I was so surprised it was that easy after seeing countless post on other forums about this problem with the MCU.  A few sprays in the opening for each fader and then move them back and forth a few times and fixed!

Thanks,

Goes to show. We've really become a throw away society. Jesse, you might have ditched a perfectly good unit had you not been in a discussion where it was recommended you use some Deoxit.

Glad you got and then took some good advice. Another win for the Cakewalk forums.

Cheers

That is a good outcome and I am glad for the OP.

Just out of interest as a former electronics engineer I can say there are two types of cleaners etc for pots and switches and faders etc..  One type cleans really well and leaves no residue behind.  Good for contacts and things that don't move so much.  e.g. switches.  The other type cleans but leaves a fine lubriacting film behind.  Better for anything moving such as pots, faders or motorised faders.  It pays to know which one to use in what places.  Ask your supplier too if you are not sure, they will tell you which does which etc...

awesome news Jess. that Deoxite is worth a million dollars in my studio.
Cant tell you how many different kinds I have. simple deoxite cleaner, deoxite + lubricant, pcb cleaner, safe on plastics circuit board cleaner. use it on everything from amplifier knobs (static) to guitar pots (dropping signal as turning) and yes, cleaning faders .
Sometimes when amps get old, their input jacks become riddled with oxidation and can actually make a connection from ground to positive, so you think the amp is dead. spray some of that stuff in the input, swab it with a q tip, put a 1/4 jack in and out 100 times, spray again, clean and wha la !

Rock on my man

Mudge,

Soooo true,   It things don't work the way we want, we re ready to get rid of them.  I was bothered by the calibration error message I was receiving for a few faders, and I never though about the faders being dirty.

I wish I could remember who told me to get the Deoxit, but I am so grateful that they mentioned it to me.  All of you with controllers that have Faders, especially motorized, touch-sensitive Faders, Get Some Deoxit!!

I swear you don't even read my posts

have you tried to open up the back of the MCU and spray some deoxite on the fader tracks ? this might help / quick fix.
