Hi all just joined been using sonar 7 pro ed and windows xp for years now  but im changing over to windows 7 and sonar pro Ed, to my 4gig cpu as its a music computer only. The card im using is a E-mu 404 with the cable outlets for phono jacks etc.. im doing a new install from xp as most of the new instruments are not compatible ..i.e guitar rig 5 and other new stuff  etc.. any advice as Windows 7 and E-mu sound card  is what i will be using .

I think you should be fine.  I used Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 with Windows 7 32bit (I now use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 with Windows 7 64bit).  Before you upgrade, take an image of your hard disk in case something does not quite work out.

The most important thing, however, is to make sure your hardware, especially your e-mu 404 sound card has native Windows 7 drivers available and that you have access the all the functions that you had access to under Windows xp.  I have an old SW1000XG card that did not have native Windows 7 drivers so I had to use the latest Wndows XP drivers.

I am going to be going through a similar thing but I'll be going from Windows 7 64bit to Windows 10 64bit.  I have to make sure my hardware will work.  I also have to make sure my other functionality is not impacted adversely.

Thanks for the reply mate ..i still have the cd for 404 card i think i do have native instruments drivers on it just hope everything pans out if i get stuck i will ask again for some help ,as i know the 404 e-mu card is old now but i find it easy to use, as it has the jacks and fiber optic leads outside of it. I could take it to a computer shop to have it all installed but i want to give it a go first ,to try and save some cash .

You mentioned that you will be using a card version of the E-mu 404 with your new 4gig CPU.  If that is the PCI version, does your new system have a PCI slot (not PCIe)?
 
A few new motherboards do have PCI slots, but as I understand they work with a bridge chip, and are not truly native PCI (which has been replaced by PCIe).
