  • Lenses what do you think about them? (p.7)

"I think this was a much needed and brilliant call to integrate this!"

My view exactly.

Lenses are a MASSIVE step backwards for me... I've just updated my Sonar artist only to find the screensets feature completely gone. Unbelievable.

I had my Sonar set up to have full screen track view on screenset 1, which was accessible by hitting "1" on the numerical keypad, full screen mixer view on screenset 2 - keypad "2" and so on... now all of this is gone. Screenset module is gone too, so now to change views I have to make two mouse clicks instead of one and as I've already mentioned there is no key binding option.

I'm done. I'm reverting to the previous version and am not planning on updating ever again. No more subscription money from me, sorry.

I am spending my time writing this all instead of making music, because Cakewalk have decided to make yet another pointless change in the UI and completely killed my workflow...

Are you sure? I would check the lens thats loaded, it may be the reason. Try the advanced lens. See if your screensets return.

They're not gone. But on a wider topic, there's no doubt UI changes are disruptive. However, I regard spending the time learning them as an investment. If I spend 1 hour learning it but save 20 hours over the course of year because of what I learned, it's worth it.

I don't have Artist but I assume you can select "None" as a Lens.

How two mouse clicks and a dropdown menu are supposed to save my time over 1 keystroke/mouse click?

I can almost imagine the boardroom meeting discussing this "improvement":

- Hi lads, I have a brilliant idea of decluttering menus.
- Brilliant. What is it?
- Let's create...     a dropdown menu.

I think you need to look harder. In no other version did they take screensets away. I don't have Artist. I have Platinum. So I can't check directly. In the help file there is no reference to Artist not having screensets. But they do mention its not in Home Studio.

One more thing about lenses. You may not be able to modify the factory lenses. This may be disconcerting to some. However use the none lens or make you own. They shouldn't interfere with you normal setup unless you invoke one.

Yes, they are there. All but one of my old screensets are gone though. No biggie, I can make them again. I still have a few questions:

- What was wrong with the old module? Why the new concept hasn't been incorporated into evolving the screensets feature?
- What is the point of having Module strip/bar/whatever you call it, if we are faced with a new menu in the most random part of the screen? Does it not defeat the purpose of modules altoghether?
- Where are key bindings? WHERE???

This is a massive failure in my opinion.
