  • Import MIDI "text"/"markers" [Resolved]

So I've saved a Band In A Box file as MIDI and opted to include the "part markers" so that when I open up the MIDI file in Sonar (not by importing, but by merely opening as MIDI), the song shows part markers as a start, to indicate structure, etc.

However, if I open a New Song and IMPORT the same midi file, the markers don't come along.  I would have to take the time to examine and enter by hand.

Is there a fix to importing these MIDI "text" messages?

Thanks in advance.

I figured it out:

Importing MIDI files
You can create a new SONAR project from a MIDI file simply by opening the file. SONAR takes material from the file and places it into one or more tracks in the Track view.
To import data from a MIDI file into a project
1.
Open the MIDI file as a new, separate project.

2.
Choose Edit > Select > All.

3.
Choose Edit > Copy Special to display the Copy dialog box.

4.
Make sure that Events in Tracks is checked. If you don’t want to import tempo changes, meter/key changes, or markers, uncheck those options. Click OK.

5.
Open the target project, or click in the Track view for that project.

6.
Set the Now time and current track to indicate where the material should be placed.

7.
Choose Edit > Paste Special to display the Paste dialog box.

8.
Check Paste to One Track if you want all material imported into the current track.

9.
Click OK.

SONAR imports the material and displays it in the Track view.

Not sure what I did that made these appear in reverse order...  :-(

Glad you figured it out. I'm just getting into Midi and hacking my way through the weeds too. Found an old Elton John song in midi and am playing it through an Addictive Keys VST. Where did you get your Midi file(s)? I'm exploring free midi.org for files.

BTW... your posts posted in the correct order. I think Sonar defaults to showing threads from the beginning so readers can start there and follow the conversation. If you want to reverse the order and see the newest thread post first, click the little "post" link in the top right of the original poster's header to reverse it. It acts like a toggle.

Ah, that's what I had done--accidentally clicked that "Post" icon and reversed the order.

The MIDI file was one I'd actually made in Band In A Box--a great program.  When I'm looking for MIDI files, I just GOOGLE for the title--no particular site I frequent.
