I did upgrade other computers to Windows 10 so I used one of those machines as a test model to get my PCR-800 working. I was successful in getting the the midi controller to work and I installed the edirol software just to see if it would also work inside windows 10. After everything checked out I upgraded my main computer which is used to record my music.
I already took windows 10 off the main computer and reinstalled Windows 7 because I could not get the drivers for the PCR-800 to work in the past windows 10 install. So I reinstalled windows 10 and downloaded the windows 8.1 and vista drivers. I did the procedure that was described which was to install the windows 8.1 drivers until you get to the point where it wants you to plug in your hardware, then cancel out of the procedure without doing an uninstall. Then use the device manager to manually find the vista drivers
In windows 10 right clicking on the start button brings up a menu with immediate access to the control panel and the device manager and a host of other things. What a cool feature for windows 10 because it really allows you to get anywhere inside the operating system quickly.
I tried to use the windows 7 drivers as Jesse suggested but I could not get it to work. In the end I had to use the Vista drivers to get everything to work. Now I have my midi controller back and I have windows 10. How cool is that. I had to reactivate Addictive Drums so it would work. This was easy to do using the Addictive installer. other than that everything went well.
I know some question the need to upgrade but there are some advantages to Windows 10. The first thing I noticed was that older software that worked in XP and that no longer worked in Vista or Windows 7 now works again in windows 10. The second thing I noticed is that my other normal hardware works better in windows 10. I have a second monitor and I could not get the higher resolution to work in windows 7. it now works great in windows 10. while this may have been a graphics card issue it is resolved in windows 10.
Thank you to everyone for your help in resolving this issue. The New Windows operating system seems to work better with software and hardware alike. That is, if you can get the drivers to work.
