This would be a great idea. The ability to easily lock/unlock a channel would be great.

(as someone else just mentioned) just click the automation lane button.

As much as I hate to admit it - I would love a tool like this that could protect me from myself. I'd just want it to lock EVERYTHING....   faders, pan, trim, send/return, master, bus, EQ, clip-position/data, all of it. No more accidental remixes!

Doesn't mix recall provide that functionality? It doesn't freeze things but it allows instant recall if we screwed something up and want to go back to a prior mix.

I use a lot of automation personally, but I wouldn't want to use it for this.

Frankly, it would be tedious and annoying to write automation, then re-write it everytime. Why can't the "freeze" function be used to freeze everything?

Just hide the track....you won't be able to accidentally move the fader.....

^ that's a workaround that I use now. Especially when comping takes (which I still do the old fashioned way). Honestly, hiding tracks is the best suggestion I've seen so far.

But I still want the lockout option :)

Get the volume where you want; add a volume envelope. If you ever accidently move the fader, it will snap back to what the envelope is set to.

I was about to make that suggestion too.

I have used envelopes to lock and snap faders into place.  I was just curious as is tedious to have to create an envelope for each track, especially on a piece with a large track count .  A simple lock button would be helpful.

Mix Recall.

In a big project, select all tracks and add the envelopes holding the control key. They will all appear at once. Getting rid of them is not as efficient.
