So, I did watch a tutorial video on Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4b5r7fm25o from Cakewalk.
 
According to this it is simple to convert audio to midi. I did try exactly as shown, but when the synth then plays it, it only plays one note all the way. No idea if I have completely overlooked or misunderstood something?
 
The case is that I have a recorded piano track (recorded few years ago), that I want to convert into another sound (rhodes) on a new synth. I tought after watching this video, that it was an easy task.
 
Anyone who have tried this?

Never tried it but most detection algorithms like good level. Is the source loud enough?

Oddly enough, I was playing with this exact thing the other night.  I tried the ARA and the Melodyne methods, and the exact same thing happened both ways - I had one repeated note over and over.  The rhythm seemed to be correct.

i just tried it and it works fine here. just recorded a little rhythm guitar track, set up rapture pro, dragged the clip to the rapture pro track and it converted fine, never tried it before, quite impresive actually. the only problem is when playing it back (plays fine) but if i stop it i gets this loud tone and then rapture pro won't play again until i change the preset be it to another one or back and forth to the original sellection.
 
just a thought, is this done with melodyne behind the scenes ? if so it may have something to do with melodyne being set to percussive mode (or whatever it is) or some such? i don't know
 
[edit] after a few playthroughs and reset of the patch it seems to be fine mostly, no more loud beep and having to reset the patch for rapture pro to play everytime i stop it, seems to be very intermittent

Audio to Midi in Sonar is done by Melodyne. It sets up a temporary Region FX, analyzes the audio, creates the midi, and closes the Region FX again. You can see <Melodynes> and RFX for Melodyne Region FX while it is working.
 
If everything is a single note, Melodyne used the percussion algorithm. Create the Region FX manually for Melodyne, then you get the Melodyne editor window, where you can change the detection algorithm. Audio to Midi will then use this algorithm when you drag the audio clip to a midi track.
