When loaded no controls at all Just a square empty black box

All I get is the blank box which is black it has the top line there for presets etc that also is empty; this happens on all my PCs so not just on a isolated machine ...

Definitely not a common occurrence.  What graphic adapter do you have and have you installed the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website?

Hi. I tried on my laptop, and could not replicate your experience. Worked as it should on my end.
Might be a driver / GPU issue, as suggested by promidi.

I had this problem once when these plugs were first introduced. It happened on my testing laptop. I solved it by updated my graphic drivers. I guess this will depend on your specific hardware, but I would search the manufacturers web site for the latest graphic drivers. It is a place to start.

These plug ins use Open GL. make sure you have installed windows update to the lastest
and also (as note above) check graphics card drivers.
