As the title says, I've done a complete disk wipe, format and OS install.

At a few stages along the way I'd like to do a disk image and then incrementally or even a few more full images at certain points there after.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Buds,

J

Ditto. Version 16 of true image just released. You need an external hard drive for backups.

When I redid my machine, I used the same mentality. I disconnected all drives except the C: during the reload and brought Windows back up, then ran all priority updates, and tweaks on the system to benchmark it and ensure stability. After loading essentials, I connected the other drives and did an initial image with Macrium Reflect (free version). I did a second image after installing the programs I use and verifying build. Those are the only two images performed thus far and reside on a secondary HDD.

The free version of Macrium Reflect will only allow full restores (cannot extract files from the image), which is fine for this use. One thing I did notice when restoring an image to test it was that the C: drive required a reformat first, it seems to have issues with the boot partition unless that has been formatted.

To create a master boot record boot off windows CD media and go to the command prompt.

Type fdisk /MBR.

You may need to use BCDEDIT command as well depend on what the situation is.

It sounds to me your boot partition was created on a previous version of Windows and is effectively useless. You should get rid of it (be careful though to boot off your OS partition, google on how to do this, be careful!).

Free or paid version?

But didn't I read here just a few weeks ago that are problems with the new version?

Not sure what the free version offers, but when it's as important as doing backups/imaging/boot disks etc..., I'd definitely go with the paid version.

I only have Acronis 13 and it has worked out great. Not sure about the newest version and the good Doc should chime in shortly.

There is a free version of True image? News to me thought it just had a 30 day trial.

No problems at all with TI 2016, or 2015 for that matter. Both work wonderfully for me.

You can still do a system image backup in Windows 10 without using any other application.
