That's not safe mode, that's re-personalizing sonar. (but what have you got to lose ?) it doesn't change anything except set up files.
 
Safe Mode dialog
Opening a file in safe mode opens the safe mode dialog box, which asks you, one plug-in at a time, which of the file’s plug-ins to open each. If you think one of the plug-ins is preventing the file from opening, choose not to load that plug-in. You can also try loading only one plug-in, closing the file, and then loading 2 plug-ins the next time you open the file, etc., until you isolate the bad plug-in.
 
 
Note: Safe mode is activated when you open a file while the SHIFT key is pressed.

OK, I probably did it by opening Sonar with Shift down. I'll try it with the file instead of the program.
 
Nope. Just tried that. I still get the Personalization message and even after clicking OK, the file still doesn't open. I'm going to try it with the computer in Safe Mode. 
 
Does anyone know if you can open the .cwp file and remove Kontakt from there? 

I think I have a handle on it. Kontakt was the culprit, I started by saying NO to just Kontakt and the file opened right up. I removed and replaced Kontakt so that now the file has the correct address of the new version and resaved. It opened up just fine. Now for the other 300 songs!

it might not be Kontakt in specific. it could be just one of the library's your using. (preset, samples, exc)

Normally, I'd say that could be true but I've had the same files working for over a year with no changes to anything except the version of Kontakt. After upgrading Kontakt, I'm usually prompted for the new reg keys or mem address, this time I wasn't for unknown reasons. 
 
It also looks as if the .cpw file 'remembers' plugin settings so maybe it's not as bad as I thought. 

revnice1 - Are you using the full Kontakt or the player?  I updated the Kontakt 5 player in mid-December, but I also updated Sonar at the same time, and of course there are the constant Windows 10 updates.  I'll have to try some selective troubleshooting.  I was working on a fairly complex project today and noticed that even saving the file as I was working on it was slower than usual.  The project is on an internal SSD drive, but comparing it to similar projects on an internal 7200 RPM drive, load and save times are similar.  It wasn't this slow until recently.

Are you 100 positive you don't have any Anti Virus running and are all up to date with Windows ?
Trust me when I say Anti Virus will rescan the same files unless they are added to the exception list.
I had a case about 2 months ago where Sonar was very slow and unresponsive at times. it turned out I needed to update my virus definitions. I just became lazy and set it to manual (to prevent scanning while im working in Sonar)
once I updated and did a cold reboot. it was like a new computer. For some odd reason my Anti Virus was sucking up huge amounts of CPU until I completed the updates.
Also don't under estimate the power of shutting down your PC for the night and restarting it in the morning. sleep mode is not the same thing.

Same thing here, i get the personalization message by using SHIFT + click on the .cwp file.

I also use Kontakt 5 and made the last update where the orange icon became white (v 5.6.5 (R13)).
 
When you create a new project (File -> New ->  BASIC), does it take long for the project to be created ?
 
I also noticed that on a file that open quickly (see my other thread), by pressing B to open the Browser, it takes a while too.

If you guys think you have narrow this down to Kontakt, I would contact <- no pun intended) NI and let them know.
 

I don't think it's an NI issue in my case. I had trouble getting the old Full Kontakt off, 'a full version has been detected - installation cannot continue' or words to that effect. The update wouldn't install until I got rid of that message. I ended up deleting reg keys and folders all over my system and it still didn't work so I had to go back to an earlier version and keep applying updates to get back to where I was. 
 
So I'm the one who screwed up my system. Removing/replacing Kontakt is working, in fact load times seem faster than before. When answering Yes/No to each plug, I just say no to anything using Kontakt and the file opens. It's very tedious because I have two or three plugs in each track and I'm so religious about backing up that I backed up the problem. But all will be well, I should be back where I was by the end of the day.
