Why would Cakewalk create and publish a point system if there was an expectation their employees would be answering the questions?

dunno, why do they do anything, it's never explained :-P

so can we assume this is not the advertised "feedback portal" but just some extra forum space? because "feedback" implies cakewalk are involved

Every time I've opened it I see basic questions that are normally posted here and Steve, you seem to be all by your self answering them. Very few posts answered by other forum members. And all the posts seem to be very short and to the point.

Often the questions are very basic. There was a time I felt like I was the only one answering but that has not been the case recently. Still the pool of users answering questions is small. It would be nice to see that pool grow. I believe the answers should be fact-based and as short as possible. I try to point to the appropriate help page when possible so that the questioner and subsequent readers may find more detailed information. That said development on the Bakery has been slow. I suspect in part due to the holiday schedule and other demands on the developer(s).  I still maintain these types of discussions should be made on the Bakery as difficult and unpleasant as it may be.

As it sits, I feel the bakery is better suited for just collecting ideas for improvement. You can easily see what features users are interested in and how many others agree or disagree with them. The fact that Cakewalk may not pay any attention to those ideas is another issue. Beyond that, I find the bakery pretty much useless. Following threads in that area is unpleasant for me and difficult, but that may just be me and my thought process.

New ideas are not bad but they have to be reviewed. IF it turns out that the idea wasn't great you can't be afraid to cut it loose and try something else. Unfortunately those that create the new idea see it's failure as a personal failure and refuse to admit it wasn't successful.

That is your interpretation. There are others.

I see. The part you quoted comes from http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3539705
While it does confirm the basic nature of the data collected, Craig did not write it

really didn't help all that much.

I was pretty sure he has never posted a negative assessment of the analytics data. Thanks for the reference. Sorry to derail the Bakery thread.

Yes, sorry to put words in Craig's mouth.

I'll go on record as saying, if you're going to collect data (and I have it turned on in my Sonar) then I would be all for it providing as much useful data as possible. To me it's not a negative, it's a positive!

To me the bakery and the collection of data are all related. They provide a way for the bakers to get information about what works, doesn't work, and to understand a useful direction. The more effective that is, the better the product.

sure that's my interpretation - what are any other interpretations? who else would we be feeding back to other than cakewalk?

My impression is that  the Bakery is somehow a benefit to Cakewalk and not the users. No real reason to make another site and close the existing one here. I suspect that Cakewalk is trying to  see if they can save money by creating  a forum.
When i visit  the  Bakery and see that orange on white color scheme i just want to leave. I still question just why it exists.

To me feedback is information provided to the company from the end-user. Such as the Ideas section.

I find it hard to look at. I'm kind of tired of the trend of colour-schemes that lose the basic ability to read at length. Light gray on gray, orange on white, etc. This forum here is much easier imho
