if you possess the skill, have the ear, you will definitely hear the difference.
In my travels I found that sticking with one emulation per project really lends to the tonal characteristics.
Im a big SSL fan, however I prefer the tonal emulations of the Neve. when I mix and match console emulators things sound to clogged and undistinguishable. but using one emulator across the board I hear more definition.
 
I don't use the console emulator as much as I used. now I stick with the SSL bus compressor on all my buses and prefer this sound over the console emulation. While the console emulators don't add compression and the Waves SSL bus compressor does. the Waves SSL adds an Analog characteristic  that is unbeatable in anything else I've tried.

Try selecting all the tracks and using the Ctrl key turning all the channels consule emulators on and off.. You'll hear the cumulative effect.. It adds crosstalk and a bit of saturation. Very musical in my opinion!
