• SONAR
  • Would love some live help from someone to get my sonar to output audio. (p.9)

The unit is mainly for my mic. If I disable everything except sonar from accessing the unit it would prevent me from using my mic. So in effect the entire set of purchases would be pointless. Sonar would be one of those seldom used programs. If I was all about making music seriously I would look at it as being for important. But since gaming, discord, media and other software is more important. I'm starting to think sonar isn't for me.
I pictured still being able to talk to people while using sonar.

This is really unfortunate. I've used the US-2x2 on three different laptops and two desktops, without any negative issues. But, I use it only with ASIO and turn off all other sounds, like system sounds, which try to take over the system.

First, remember there are two files you need to download: Driver 1.02 and Driver & Settings Panel 2.01. It's also crucial to update to the 1.01 firmware, which IIRC resolved some issue with SONAR.

I'd suggest one last attempt...

  1. Unplug the US-2x2's USB cable.
  2. Uninstall Software Mixer 1.3. You don't need it and I think it's problematic.
  3. Re-install driver USB V1.02 and Driver & Settings Panel 2.01.
  4. Re-start.
  5. Plug the USB cable into the interface.
  6. Wait 30 seconds.
  7. Open the TASCAM Settings Panel, do not open SONAR yet. See what the panel says. Turn off the power-saving feature if it's turned on.
  8. Open SONAR.
  9. Cross fingers.

As this point the instructions branch into two sections:

  • Nope, still doesn't work.
  • Great! It works.

I'll keep my fingers crossed...

Remember that ASIO is the preferred driver model for studio-type recording. Until a recent Windows Core Audio update (yes I know the name is confusing, because that's what Apple calls theirs...not the same thing), using the Windows native drivers for audio recording was a losing battle, and ASIO4ALL didn't really fix it. Unfortunately "real" ASIO likes to deal with only one application at a time.

Deth before you give up do what Craig has laid out above.

Hmmm... I wonder if that Sonar LE software version is 32-bit and is having issues with Windows 10 and a 64 bit audio driver?

Because the audio interface installs and is recognized ok in Windows, and the other software sees it...

Sorry for the delays in replies. This time of night I'm a bit more busy. 13hrs into this issue.
Good news for anyone else. A solution, well kind of....
1) clean install of drivers+software file
2) plug in unit
3) set the tascam settings to DAW
4) set hdmi or some other device as default. (NEEDED).
5) set a webcam or headset as default input device. (NEEDED)
6) load up and it works.

so I can use it if I go back to webcam mic... kind of makes it pointless as the entire purpose is so I can have a higher quality mic for chat and youtube.

An additional note, skipping any one of these steps means restarting from step 1 all over again. I tried after I got it working with defaults still set to tascam and had to go thru the whole process again.

also..
sonar le can be installed 32bit or 64bit.

Did you look at the link I posted above about configuring ableton?

Yea the ableton link was more about configuring your system for ONLY ableton.
I did get ableton to work provided I had nothing else accessing any audio at all. So it seems if I want to use either of those programs I need to scrap my mic setup.

There was a section in there on Sound Card settings which explains how to set Ableton Live up with the ASIO driver.

When you tested did you configure Ableton to use ASIO or did you leave it as the default without checking?
