  • LatencyMon reports dxgkrnl.sys as the highest latency ISR

I've recently upgraded to W10, and it worked pretty good but I have some issues with the DirectX driver. After first upgrading, the NVIDIA driver and dxgkrnl.sys was the biggest hog to the system. After updating to the latest driver, only the dxgkrnl.sys is strangleing the system. (well, also the FireWire driver reports a bit high latency...)

Any ideas?

Perform clean reinstall of the nvidia driver (it's an option in setup), just install the main driver and no other gunk.
Try to change power management in nvidia driver from adaptive to full (in control panel -> advanced I think? Maybe elsewhere) afterwards.

Any further issues please give a screenshot of the latencymon driver tab. Please sort it from highest DPC downwards. ta.

Even though the dx video driver is being named as the culprit, it's most likely actually something else that makes calls to it. The NVIDIA driver would be the prime suspect.

You might try disabling HPET in the BIOS. I've seen reports of that improving video performance on some video cards, NVIDIA in particular.

Also experiment with turning off video acceleration features. It doesn't hurt anything and isn't necessary for a DAW.

If you try it and it makes no difference make sure you put it back to what it was. I'm the opposite HPET improves it (nvidia card).

You need to know how to disable HPET in windows if you do this as well. You can google these forums for method. I would say this is unlikely to be the issue, but I certainly would not rule it out.

You are better off doing a BIOS update though before you try it. That's the other thing to try anyway.

Hi, thanks for the response
Changing the graphics preferences to "preformance" instead of "quality" seems to have solved it. I will post a few screenshots tomorrow

BTW: I did already disable all C states and HPET in the BIOS, and the latest BIOS from Intel is from 2013
