Hi, I have been trying to record vocals for the first time using my new setup of: Sonar platinum, via RME Babyface and an MXL 990 mic.
 
I have previously been able to record using:  Platinum via Babyface  and my old Shure mic with no issues.   And, I have recorded using the MXL into Sonar Producer via my old M-audio fast track by engaging the phantom power switch. Is there an equivalent phantom setting required for the Babyface?  Can anyone help me ?

To enable the phantom power you will need to open the TotalMix tool and enable it there.

I think there is a way you can do it without opening TotalMix but you will need to check the manual for how that works.
