Now I wonder, where did the "negativity" in this thread started? Sorry to say, but the OP already had this not too subtle negativity of "why don't you always behave like this?", implying that forumites in too many cases don't act right. Then, one should not complain if it is pointed out, that even if forumites "behave like this", the result is nonetheless often different than in the given example. (Of course, I don't deny that at least some forumites really behave in a questionable way, more or less often. But this is obviously not the only reason for being heard or not.)

I don't understand what you're trying to say here.  But if it's suggesting that it's somehow Craig's fault that the thread went negative, I totally disagree.

All I wanted to say is that it's always the other "who starts with negativity". It depends much on your own point of view what you consider "negative". And in this particular thread, I can't get rid of the feeling that the main negativity was started by those calling others negative.

OK so exactly where in Craig's original post was this "negativity"?  He was praising a few people based on a specific example.

Maybe the whole subject of "forum behavior" should be banned as well as religion and politics

Because although I don't think for one second that Craig's original post had anything but the best of intentions, the result could perhaps be filed under "should have seen that coming!"

For instance if I posted something in the Coffee house about certain currently controversial political figures, even if the intent of the post wasn't to stir up controversy and was meant as light relief, I should not be surprised if the thing had descended into a slinging match within a couple of hours. Any discussion about forum etiquette, forum behavior and the personality of forum users is bound to cause tension.

So this is my suggestion - perhaps discussions of this nature to be banned outright and that ban added to the terms and conditions?

Or perhaps that in itself is too controversial for discussion

Since I'm a moody guy . I can say there seems to be at least a few dozen ways of looking at this thread during any given mood swing I may or not be having ...
In the end , after reading this thread many times over the course of a few days , I have come to the conclusion that Craig has taken a lot of unnecessary heat for no reason ...
I think that Craig went out starting this thread to serve the SONAR community as a whole but putting the information out there ..
The operative words here are Craig's Service to the SONAR community as a whole
(or even in part if you must go there )
It makes no difference to me whether I prove my point here or not ...
I feel there is a very big difference between serving a group of peoples genuine needs by sharing your knowledge and experience in a way where everybody benefits as opposed to the opposite side of the coin when a person shares their opinion of themselves as they would like people to see them as ...

Regarding all the backlash ..." They Only Tackle the Guy With the Ball " as said by  Bruce Lee

Well, my premise was, as stated, to show "why this forum can be very, very cool." I also hoped it would show the ideal way to get results, as not all people know what the ideal way is.

I anticipated that people could spin it negatively, for example, I expected "yeah well why wasn't this fixed before?" or "Why wasn't my pet bug fixed?" or "Why did CW pay attention to THambrecht instead of me?" However I made the mistake of thinking that by anticipating that, people wouldn't do it and instead recognize that I was giving kudos to parties that I thought deserved it, as well as to a process.

So instead, this thread showed that forums can also be very uncool. Oh well.

I will follow Yoda's excellent advice in post #94 and lock this thread. I also recommend people read Sharke's post #104 that precedes mine, before this thread sinks off the main page.

As to my final comment, George Carlin nailed it perfectly: "Some people see the glass full. Others see it half empty. I see a glass that's twice as big as it needs to be."
