When you have your project mixed how you want it, use 'file' 'export audio' and choose 'entire mix' 'riff wave' '16 bit' 'sample rate 44100', then export it somewhere handy on your HD.

This will give you a stereo .WAV file which you can then burn to CD or convert to MP3.

Trying to convert Cakewalk (CWP) files to MP3 ... apparently the ver in Sonar 3 Pro is only valid for 30 days and it won't do it ... says I can contact Cakewalk for the activation tool (been there / done that / says it's on it's way) but never shows up - tried to email Cakewalk, but that generates a msg that it's under construction ... any recommendations for a program that will actually convert to the MP3 file format?

Cakewalk stopped collecting the license fee for mp3 encoding when the patent expired in 2017. Unfortunately SONAR 3 is so old it requires the mp3 encoder instead of the free mp3 unlock program. I am not sure if the mp3 encoder is still available. BandLab support would know. The free 64bit Cakewalk by BandLab has an integrated mp3 encoder.

Otherwise use LAME

Export your project to a stereo wav-file, as adviced in an earlier post, and then convert to your liking. There are lots of free software that do it. As Scook mentions, the age of SONAR 3 is a culprit in this case.
A cwp-file includes so many types and separate files of data that, IMO,  it's a little misleading to even talk about converting (in the usual sense of the word) it to anything. You could compare it to a folder containing video, audio, pictures, spread-sheet material and text and wanting to "convert" that to a gif. The actual cwp-file does not even include the audio, but the information where to find it.
