Has anyone out there any experience with the new M-Audio or Focusrite interfaces? I've just had a new DAW built and am using my old Lexicon Alpha interface. Unfortunately, there are no Windows 10 drivers available yet and I'm having to push latency way up to get all my VSTs loaded without popping (I mostly produce musical backing with lots of VSTs for my drama group). I'm hoping a new interface would be the answer and it seems to be that for my budget it's between these two.
The M-Audio seems to have the advantage since it has midi capapibility but are the drivers any good? Focusrite claim to be the biggest selling - but then there's no midi.
I'm hoping eventually to get my Korg i5M connected up via midi and I do have a Yamaha UX16 midi interface, so I could use it in conjunction with the Scarlett.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Wouldn't USB MIDI be part of Scarlett ?

Unfortunately, the Scarlett is audio only. Midi isn't going to be the deal breaker here but a good all-in-one interface seems like a step forward - at least for me anyway.

Maybe check the included software. Scarlett has some Focusrite and Softube stuff, while M-Audio includes the recently renovated AIR FX collection.
Also have a look at the new Audient iD4 interface.

M-Audio has type C USB interface and better build quality compared to 2nd gen Scarletts. While Focusrite is known for high quality audio conversion in low to mid budget sector.
I still use Scarlett 6i6 1st gen and have 9~10ms RTL at 64samples.  Works fine for me although sometimes I wish the latency was a bit lower.
So there are many factors to consider when choosing an AI. I would recommend setting your priorities first. Then the choice will be obvious.

Look at the Focusrite 2i4. It's the 2i2 with MIDI.
I accidentally bought the 2i2 thinking it was the 2i4, and am very happy with it (except for the lack of MIDI). Solid drivers, rugged housing, and the Red Compressor and Red EQ that come with it are great.

Took the plunge and went for the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4. So far, so good! Once again, thanks to all for the advice.

How come nobody's looks at the new Tascams. This one has better features and possibly better pre amps.

Below is a document Ityped out to list stuff found on interfaces these day's. 
List all the features you need now and in the next few years and then start looking. 
There is a lot of choices.
Make a list of your requirements first.

What kind of connectivity do you require? and how many of each.
These are some of the options:
XLR, 1/4",  Combi jacks,  RCA, ¼” line level, ¼” Instrument level ,MIDI, SPDIF, ADAT,MADI
How many ins and outs do you think you'll need now and in the future?
Are they accessible?  Front or rear panel?
Are all ¼” jacks Balanced?  
Is there a true stereo pair? Some don’t have a matched set of inputs.
Pre Amps will fall under the “you get what you pay for”  rule, but check out the reviews anyhow.
A/D convertors will also fall under the same rule and generally all are good these days.
Are there peak level meters or just a little LED for each input?
Are there channel Insert jacks?
Are there separate controls for Monitor level and headphone level?
Is there a blend control for mixing Source with Computer ( DAW) ?
How many Headphone jacks? A level for each?
Are the input pads or line / Instrument toggle switches on the front, back or software controlled?
Is it a metal box or cheap plastic? Is it light and portable or large and bulky, Rack mountable?
Does it have an on / off switch?
Does it use Buss power or a power supply? Buss power can have issues with noise and Phantom power. Look for at least an optional power supply.  
Does it have DSP effects built in?
Does it use a GUI mixer? Having a software (GUI) mixer adds more options.
Can it be used as stand alone? Some interfaces are also handy as a small mixer.
What are the Round Trip Latency (RTL) specs? Do you need low RTL for real time processing?
Low RTL is going to be at a higher price point. A $200 interface will have hidden buffers etc.
Zero Latency monitoring is not the same as RTL. All interfaces have some latency.
Zero latency is just marketing hype for monitoring directly from the interface.
And most important of all, Does it have top notch drivers for your OS. 
What is the word on support from the company?
Does it come with free software, An LE version of a  DAW you would like to try?
 
Everyone will recommend the interface they have chosen, that doesn't mean it is the right one for 

Eddies list is a good one and if you use it, it will take you to the best choice. Though considering what software you get with it is something to consider and has influenced my choices in the past I would not consider any DAW LE software as part of the equation. Every LE type DAW software I have had isn't a good representation of the DAW it's named after. Most are old versions that have not been updated for a few years. There is also very little info out on the web to help and even less people who have used it. Enjoy the instruments and loops you get with an interface but don't invest much of your enthusiasm in an included lite DAW. If this has changed I'm glad but that was the way it was when I last bought one.

Thunderbolt 3 or USB 3.1 over USB-C should do away with latency altogether.
