  • Why can I sometimes not adjust clip gain? (p.2)

I just realized that you want to adjust the envelope for the entire clip...  I should pay more attention.
Along with using the 'MOVE' cursor option, you have highlighted the clip right?  I have to do that to move the envelope as a whole.

It's interesting that a few patches ago, that issue was fixed for me.  What a relief!  Now, these last two patches the problem is back.  Rats!

Yep. I know how to do it, or I think I do. I've even watched a tutorial a long time ago and I do it a lot (with the smart tool). Just sometimes, for no reason I can discern, it won't work. Use case: leveling short clips while comping from different takes.

Not true. There is no need to highlight the clip. The cursor changes as soon as you hover over the envelope and allows you to drag it up and down, regardless of whether anything is highlighted.

I know with Track Envelopes you need to hold down the control key when moving an envelope or a section thereof.

Could this be the same with Clip Envelopes?

Not unless they recently changed it, but I'll be sure to check.

Watching this thread. I have this problem intermittently, mostly using the smart tool, and have never been able to pin down the cause.

it's an 'oldie', have it on X3 every now and then..
I just change the track to display clips, and press ctrl/s (save) then change to automation view again and it's ok usually.
So in total I spend 7 seconds once a week or so.

That's right. If you want to move the whole clip envelope up or down (as opposed to adding nodes, etc.) you hold ctrl and drag up or down.

The clip does not need to be highlighted.

I definitely do not need to use CTRL. I would need to use CTRL if I were to "grab" the line and drag it up or down. However what I'm doing uses the line moving cursor you get when you hover near the top of the clip. You don't use CTRL for that, in fact if you do it moves the entire envelope except the end point of a clip, which I guess could be useful but is a different effect altogether.
