Is there any way to just have the clip indicators reset without the music starting up again?

If you stop the transport, the clipping indicators are reset -- or at least they are reset when you start the next time.
If it is not an issue you wish to manage with compression, then you should lower all levels.  Select all the tracks, and then hold down the ctrl key while adjusting one of the track faders.  That will adjust everything in proportion, stopping the distortion and leaving your mix in place.

It is really important to get the levels into a non-clipping range before you do much else because many of the other effects behave differently at high input levels. You need to get everything down into a reasonable working range that does not clip before doing much else with the mix.

+1 for keybinding Reset Clip/Peak Indicators. I use this all the time when tweaking levels while looping

When the dynamic Control Bar was introduced at the beginning of 2015, the Bakers removed Reset All Clips and Numeric Peak Indicators from SHIFT+C and instead assigned Expand/Collapse the Main Control Bar. When I noticed it, I immediately (re-)assigned Reset All Clips and Numeric Peak Indicators to SHIFT+C, because the keyboard shortcut is so handy and I also don't have the need to collapse CB.

I'm even lazier, I just added the command to a spare button in the Custom Module

A continued thanks to you all... some more good advice and suggestions... looks like key binding is the way to go as I fumble my way to the endzone   :$

Seems like that would be a nice option
