Hi Guys,

How can I export an AAC file directly from Sonar. I currently use an external program for that specifically, Kills my workflow.

As far as I could comprehend the instrunctions I could find online I need to set up an external AAC encoder ( I found Nero to be the best option, free and according to wikipedia the best quality). So I DL'd it. And fired up the external encoder utility.

Help!!!!

There must be an easyer way, right? Can someone point me in the right direction?
If not can someone help me with the code I should type and what boxes to be checked and stuff.

I already own the mp3 extension and use it. ( I mention this because this is not a possible solution) I specifically need the AAC functionality.

Thanx in advance ;)

Cakewalk External Encoder Config utility

Did you look in help how to config?
"To use the utility, start SONAR and go to Utilities > Cakewalk Ext Encoder Config, then specify the proper settings or the encoder you want to use."

Thanks lfm,

Yeah, thats what I did. I guess I am fague..

My questions:

1.Is Cakewalk External Encoder Config utility the only way?
2. Help, I do not understand one bit what to do [WHAT ARE THE PROPER SETTINGS], pls give me a line of code (if that is possible) that I can use to set it up. Please somebody....

Somebody should have set it up or knows how to do it. PLS help. I have been trying for almost 2 months now. I wish there was something simple to do this. I know there must be an option in exporting an audio file to AAC in Platinum. It is Platinum.

I know a bit about music and I am a tad creative, but coding is not my strongest point.

Maybe a link to a expleanation how to setup AAC encoding for Sonar.

If It is not, I wish it would be as easy as exporting a MP3.

If it is the easyist way to use an external program please tell me. I will abandon my hope and move on disapointed withoud false hope....

sonar does not natively export AAC files. Cakewalk do however provide a tool that enables you to configure a 3rd party encoder that can be accessed in Sonar's export dialog.

You will need to find the AAC codec and files to install on your computer first, and then of course configure it for use.

It would be much easier if you were to just use google and find yourself a converter utility that can take an audio file and convert it to AAC. There are many free utilities available.

Go to the bottom of the page on the right side, and look for the links to the Free version for windows.

Hey Thanks Mudgel,

So the easy way isn't available... too bad. Could this be a idea for feature requests? I guess AAC is the succesor to mp3 with slightly better quality and compression.

I actualy do use a 3rd party program now to do this. I make some mixes and want to refer to them on the road listening to differences. A client uses AAC and doesn't has the ability to play back MP3 :(.

So now I have to export a WAV file and out of that file convert a AAC. This doubles the time. I usualy have a lot of mixes and narrow down the issues that way.

Is that what you ment? Or did I misintrepret you?

I have the Nero AAC codec installed. I tried to configure it, I have no idea what I am doing with that code so I just copied and pasted some I could find and hoped for the best. Didn't work out:(

Did you succesfully setup the codec? Can you help me with the code I should insert?

Thanks,

Riz

OK I am giving up.

I have been trying to set up AAC export thru the external encoder config utility.

I screwed up my settings for Youtube export and Soundcloud Flac an WAV (deleted them to be precise).

Can anoyone copy/paste me these lines or make print sreens for me please.

Still no AAC export. I keep getting the "Warning: The external encoder returned an error code the file may not have encoded properly" box.

I have Nero AAC encoder copied in my shared utilities\Nero AAC codec\win32 folder. I have tried combitations of the following:

I have [keep wave file] and [modal encoder] checked an off on all conditions

1. neroaacenc.exe" -cbr 320000 -lc -if %s -of %d
2. ""C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Nero AAC codec\win32\neroaacenc.exe" -cbr 320000 -lc -if %s -of %d ""
3. neroaacenc.exe -cbr 320000 -lc -if %s -of %d
4. neroaacenc.exe  -cbr 320000 -lc -if %s -of %d  %I=wav %O=mp4
5. neroaacenc.exe  %I=*.wav %O=*.mp4

I get the error often when using soundcloud a few times with mp3 export. So I have no idea the error is because of me doing the wrong thing or something wrong on my system.

Looking at mp3 config - did you look at that?
Look at the specific use of quote characters in between - building a command line for external utility.

How does your fields in dialog look?
The last with command line is most important.

What the above sequence is, I have no idea.
I wonder if you can put starsigns there to compute mulitple files.

Myself I never bothered doing it from Sonar - I just made BAT files that I put a shortcut to on desktop and drag-n-drop wave files on it to make mp3 files. Might be a way to get aquanted with the nero utility.

This are the command lines for Lame that I use:

cd c:\program files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities
lame -h -b 192 -m s --verbose %1 %2
pause

Puase always allow to look at any errors.

I run my wav files through Audacity for conversion. It is very quick and I hadn't even thought of doing it in Sonar. But then I'm a noob.

Thanks for the replys :)

The sequence I mentioned is the sequence I entered in the command line.

I got it from the wiki site of the Nero AAC codec. http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Nero_AAC A CBR 320kbps AAC example for using in the command prompt. I assumed it should be this or a variation of that.

this is the snippet from the link;

320kbps CBR AAC (Forced LC)[edit]

Program, including path, used for compression: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
Additional Command Line Options: /c ""C:\path\to\neroaacenc.exe" -cbr 320000 -lc -if %s -of %d && "C:\path\to\Neroaactag.exe" %d -meta:artist="%a" -meta:album="%g" -meta:track="%n" -meta:title="%t" -meta:genre="%m" -meta:year="%y""

@LFM Are the 'codes' you used in the sequence codes needed for Sonar or does every codec has its own (unique) command line sequences/codes?

Thank you for posting your lame sequence, could you pls also post the sequences of the .wav souncloud en .flac soundcloud options I deleted them by mistake in all the frustration.

@charlyg I too use an external program now but when making different mixes I have to export every mix seperatly to wav and then convert. This takes double the time. If I could export direcly to AAC it would save twice the time and more then twice the HD space (albeit temporarely it takes a little extra efort to delete) Al this if you have maybe 15 different mixes to do this to.

It would save some time if the mixrecall export would export all the different mixes in one go, but I get multiple files with 0kb file size or very small like 1mb and some are fine. completley random, if I doe the export all the mixrecalls I select some of the ones that were 0kb would be fine. Actually for me the best would be to export mixrecall mixes to AAC in one go.

Thanks again :)

I'll have a look at Sonars configure utility this evening and see if I can come up with a routine that allows you to add the codec so you can export direct from Sonar to AAC.

That'll be in a few hours my local time in Australia.
