  • Does anyone know how to control the overall volume of a track folder?

I have my tracks in various folders with their individual volues preset to what I want.  However, I would like to adjust the volume of the entire folder with the tracks within retaining their relative volumes.  I figure there might be a way to do this, but can't think of any myself.

Thanks!

Send all the tracks in the folder to a single buss.
I do this all the time; ie:
Vocal, Guitars, Drums, Keys
Each has its own folder and buss.
I send all busses, except the Vocals to a Submix buss
Submix and Vocals to the Master
Buss side of Console looks like this:
MASTER  VOCALS  SUBMIX GUITARS KEYS DRUMS
Since the introduction of Aux Tracks all effects "Busses" are in the folders with the instrument routed to them.
Hope that all makes sense.

You could create an Aux Track in each folder and then patch all the tracks within that folder to the Aux Track, or you could create a Bus for each folder and then route each track in a given folder to that bus.

Given you like the organisation of the folders, the combination of Aux Tracks and Patch Points may be the way to go.

This guide should help you figure it out.

Folders have no controls of their own so you need to do like they said. Only other way is to select all tracks and use group control (ctrl key) which will change their original levels.

You should consider setting up a bus for each folder, then directing the output of each of the tracks in a folder to the bus that you created for it.  A bus approach sounds like it is the grouping functionality that you are looking for.

Thanks, folks.  I've been monkeying around with the aux tracks and will also explore the buss routing as well.

Yes, you should pretty much always use group busses anyway for convenient level changes but also it allows you to add group FX to shape the overall sound of a group of instruments.

However, and this was noted upthread, sometimes you actually DO want to change levels right on the tracks themselves. For an entire folder it is super easy.

Just select the Folder (so its selection button turns blue) and this will select all the tracks within the folder. Then simply hold Ctrl and on one of the selected tracks adjust the Volume Fader in the Console View (or the Volume control right on the track control area in Track View). This works for most other track parameters as well (such as Gain, Pan, etc).

Cheers.
