My son only wanted one thing for Christmas- Oculus Rift.  Santa delivered.

He's been showing stuff on it and it's amazing.   I was using the 3D art programs and really enjoying myself when it occurred to me that it's only a matter of time before there is a VR experience for a DAW.  The ultimate "control surface"

This morning, I woke up while having a dream that I was EQing my mix (an actual mix that I'm working on) using the Oculus.  I was manipulating the mid and low frequencies with the same gestures that are used to zoom in, zoom out, rotate, and move the objects in the 3D art creator in Oculus.  That's not what I had imagined the night before.

I had imagined a virtual studio with racks of Pultec EQs, 1176s, LA2As, and an SSL console.   Everything is perfectly arranged in 360 degrees around you, and manipulated by virtual hand.

Only a matter of time.  The tech is here.

I have dreams like this as well. but 90% of the time I am awake .
We are not far away from some break through technology's. just look at how far we have come in the last 10 years man. I used to have to redo vocal tracks that had a few mistakes.

Cool story. you sound like a great Dad. Have fun Blix ;-)

Yup, saw one of these last summer at my son's house.  Pretty amazing but too bad the headset is so bulky. He told me there is an app that lets you put like unlimited number of virtual screens in front of you.  I immediately thought about using SONAR on 10 screens at once (more or less), then I realized that a virtual midi drum controller would fit this idiom as well.

It's only going to get better over time.  Hope this doesn't go the way of 3D TV.
