Hi is there a simple way to split a midi drum track so i can get each drum on a different track?

Thanks

first, if you have sonar and not MC you could do that with a CAL script.

however, there are other ways to achieve that in MC.  which drum software are you using?  most drum softsynths have multiple outputs available already.

As Beagle pointed out the drum synth in many cases allows you to set up either a stereo out to one track or, depending on the synth, either drum groupings or individual tracks for each drum/instrument.

I'm generally too lazy to spend that kind of time to set each part of the kit to a different track, adjust levels, EQ, compression and all that stuff on a track by track basis for a drum kit.

I opt for the one track method.....and therefore have all my synths defaulted to one track out for drums.

Back to the topic.....check the synth's output options.  In Jamstix, I think (I don't use it much these days) , the outputs are set up so you can get multiple outputs but there are not enough in JS for each part of the kit to have it's own track/output.... so grouping of toms is needed.....as well as cymbals.... I believe JS has 8 outputs and the average kit can easily have 2x that number of pieces.

Hi thanks for the tips.

I am just using the drum samples that are included in the Cakewalk Sound Centre at the minute - the drum tracks are generated in Jammer Pro 6.

Guitarhacker - you mention you keep all your drums on one track - does that mean you pan them to the middle and therefore do not have different drums from the left and right channels of your mix?

Thanks again.

yeah .... pretty much. the track my synth outputs is a stereo track.
so i leave it centered..... add eq and let it roll.

i believe drums should play pretty close to center. especially kick and
snare as well as bass and lead vox. straight up the middle.

Most drum synths are already panned; snare and high hat on the right, kick in the middle, toms across the front R to L, ride and crash on opposite sides.
