  • Am I sailing in a sinking ship? (p.3)

Last week we got a couple .cal script updates from a user. That was cool.

Not sure about a sinking ship but of cause your right when you say many people have left. Don't get me wrong as I love cakewalk, but like many people stated including myself, they will learn another DAW because they will never place all eggs in one basket from now on. So I think it's correct to say as part of their new learning curve, again like myself, they are dividing available time between different forums like Reaper or Studio One for example.

Like some others I also think that CbB is not much different than the last Splat version. But I'm wondering that some expect a lot of new functions, because I for myself think that concerning functionality CbB (Splat) is a wonderful and complete DAW, better than most others.

So the only things I would appreciate are that:
    1. There are not too many changes to the current top design and operation.
    2. A lighter load, less resource eating. Compared to other DAW's I have some issues
with my weak laptop (i5-5200U, 8GB, 1TB SSHD), whereas my more powered desktop
        (i5-8600K, 16GB, 500GB SSD + HDs) runs without question.
    3. Bugs are getting fixed (e.g. some with comping lanes)

I thought the new forum would be up and running by now. (You made a great point Pawl)

I also thought that the new store would be open by now.

With that said, Craig makes an excellent point!

Yup.  You are wrong.  Cakewalk by BandLab is better than ever and keeps improving.  They have indeed kept their word and have proved to be a responsible company dedicated to moving things forward.  What more could any user ask for?

What I liked about Sonar were the constant updates. Sure, there were bugs and it has been very stable for me, but there has been little to get excited about. Am I missing something?

It’s a fast paced world and people like me who have been using Cakewalk since the floppy disk days can attest to the fact that DAWs have advanced at an amazing pace. I have been thrilled with Sonar (I am a former lifetime member, that was a good feeling while it lasted), but I get the feeling that our stable ship has been coasting through the seas and in a year or two we will be bailing out the water caused by the bigger and faster DAWs running circles around us.

I really don’t have plans to leave Sonar and I have been dependent on it and this forum to move me along. I don’t think I have been moving much this year. I listened very carefully to people like Craig, Bitflipper, and Chuckebaby for incredible insights. I’m not really hearing too much from them, lately.

I have been seeing updates roughly on a monthly basis.  You just have to download them via bandlab assistant and let it install them for you.  Frankly, I think that is one of the neatest things about this transition;  the fact that the updates have continued.  Most of the same voices you were hearing before are pretty regular contributors to this forum, by the way.  Seek and ye shall find.

I'm too busy using CbB (as well as Studio One) to finish my "Joie De Vivre" music project . At the moment I've sort of settled into a groove of using what I know, rather than experimenting with new techniques.

Also, I've been really hard at work on the Musician's Guide to Home Recording series for Hal Leonard. And Summer is a major travel schedule for me - did 14 personal appearances in June alone.

As to insights, I collected them in the most recent tips book, and don't really have anything much to add to it right now. However I suspect that as we type, Noel & Co. are cooking up new stuff .

I love that CbB "just plain works," so I'm taking advantage of that.
